I am glad I could help him get that job

I am in marketing field or I should rather say I am a marketing professional but now I am working in human resources ever since I resigned my job and working on part time basis in the same company. My job is to help professionals in stress and sorting out their problems so I was delighted to help a young professional that was in dire need of my help.

Actually he worked in the IT department of the company and always wanted to switch over from support to development. Moreover, he was looking for the financial sector being one of the best as far job satisfaction and salaries are concerned, he had set his sights and decided that it was his ultimate goal.

A little help does wonders for a person’s life

But his problem was that he never went ahead of the third stage whenever he tried for a job in any particular company. It was like a call from HR department and the dialogue followed like, “We shall let you know, when there is an opening” and that was it. He said it was going on for as a routine for almost 2 years, or one year and eight months to be exact.

He said it was almost turning into a joke for him and he was doing his current job only half-heartedly. He also said that he kept sending his updated resume as soon as he found something of his interest on the job sites or any of the agents told him there was an opening and it went on regularly month after month.

Every time a person from the concerned department would talk to him and then there was always the same standard reply ‘Good to talk to you Mr. XXX, but we have already decided, let’s see if there is another opening next month”. I was watching his dejected face every time during his motivational lessons’ session week after week and then decided to call him in my cabin.

He told me his story in detail that how he tried his level best but they were not convinced. But as they say,”Every dog has his day”. In fact it is really very simple. It means everyone gets a chance eventually but one has to either wait or try for it with all his might or that everyone is successful during some period in their life provided they don’t get disheartened.

I asked him if he had applied for a job of his own choice in the recent past and was surprised to hear him say that his application was pending in our own company. I knew the boy has it in him so I decided to help him.  I arranged his telephonic interview with a technical person who talked to him and most of his questions were tech based. It wasn’t like a job interview. He did not find his questions as his test but as his chance to showcase his knowledge and skills.

I am glad that boy is now part of financial department of our company. He still thinks that it was like an accident but I never told him what was behind the scene that did the trick.
