Getting into Open Source Art and Graphics

When it comes to art and graphics, there are plenty of options available for you. Some of them are paid and some of them are free and open source. I think for me personally open source based apps was a good option. Considering how the graphics apps are made feature rich. You can find that some of the apps require very limited amount of learning curve. You just have to open the applications and start with drawing. And with enough practice you can use the other tools within the application itself. I think this is something many of us need to learn and understand because open source art tools ar lot harder. In this article I want to point at some of the tools that you can use for the graphics and art and how good they are compared to other open source tools out there in the market.

Krita

This is one of the popular graphics application. It is available on Linux, Windows and Mac. Compared to paid programs, this offers lot of features and the options in it. You can see that there are some of the paid programs like sketchbook pro etc. But those programs don’t come with open source. I think krita is another good solution in this case considering it is free. Most of the linux distro are coming preinstalled with it. I think this is another reason many people find it good enough for their use. I think compared to sketchbook pro this is indeed a good program. You can get started with it right away.

MyPaint

Another Krita like program but it has similarity with the sketchbook pro design. It has some nice tools. It can easily detect the driver of the tablet. And it can also help you make the designs lot easier. I have used this program and for me it can be something good. Mypaint has some nice set of features. It can also export the content into various image format. You can also make the design exported and imported into other programs. So all in all, those are really good options for you to start with. I think that is one reason i am using this type of the program. And surely I can use it if I am serious enough for the same.

Pencil

Though not exactly art and graphics category of the app. But it allows you to do 2D Animation. It can be really good app for those who want to design their simple 2D animation. I think 2D animation is not an easy with the program. You can see that pencil app is being used by many linux based desktop users. With it’s potential not limited for art, it is indeed a good program worth learning. I suggest you to use the pencil program and think about learning to use it for many resources like that. It is one of the good apps that are out there which can be good enough for the small projects.

You can see that these programs out there are good for those who don’t have money. Open source program are really good when it comes to the graphics as they help you get started easily.
