Ford’s Edsel Car failed 58 years before

Ford’s Edsel Failed, you may ask why, the answer is as simple as simple as, “Because Bad Marketing Strategy” Yes, you read me right Ford’s Edsel failed 58 years before in 1958. The reason- Most of the publicity did not come good to people’s expectations and soon the new car almost bombed in the market.

People may think why EDSEL failed in 1958, a product of Ford Motors. The fact is Ford while trying to give a run to its rivals like General Motors and Chrysler etc. Also the hype they created around their new launch and bigger than life size publicity added to its downfall.

Most of the publicity did not come good to people’s expectations and soon the new car almost bombed in the market. EDSEL cost Ford Motors almost $250 million. Please keep in mind that $250 million was a fat amount in 1958 if you compare it would count in 2016.

A little bit about why the Edsel car was developed and introduced by Ford Motors. Actually at that time Ford’s competitors General Motors had many cars in that segment in fact three. The other one the Chrysler also had three in that segment, so Ford decided to go for a lesser expensive one and came out with Edsel with tons of promises.

The people of America were certainly expecting something even in that time and as they say if an expensive product like car does not do well in the market. Some experts thought that the name Edsel was an appropriate one for an expensive car even if Ford hired Marianne Moore the famous poet for the purpose to help pick a name for this particular car.

There was another panel of experts which was not convinced with the quality of the car but most blame it to overly done publicity which did not come good to the expectation and the car soon earned a bad name and went out of the market.
