FACULTY ROOM AS AN SCARY ROOM FOR SOME STUDENTS

I presume that everyone experienced being a student and go through the scenario that I will be discussing. I myself as a former student experienced it many times, which in the end, I overcome it.

Whether students are clearing their throats for a greeting or fixing themselves on the entrance of the door, one knows that the room they are about to enter is no ordinary. It is not as if they are required to do some performance. It is just the room is full of critics ready to devour you once you enter improperly. Students and parents have always these uncomfortable feeling getting inside the faculty room.

It’s too awkward to enter a room that is often filled with silence; and full of professionals engaged on their own table, heads bowed down, and when you greet them, all those bowed heads are raised with all eyes fixed on you.

A student who is not focused may lost his or her words and would be nailed speechless in the middle of the room. Luckily, I never experienced it being speechless in front of my instructors before. J Many would take a couple of seconds before they could state their purpose. Others stutter because no words come out or they intentionally do it to show humility to those teachers inside. One mistake and you could be subject of side talks and comments. (Poor professionals who have this kind of attitude who natter about a student’s mistake)

I quite understand the feelings because I had been experienced being nervous in the teachers room. I also witnessed students who have stayed three minutes or longer outside the room before entering and trying to collect their thoughts but ended up speechless.

In this article alone, I wanted to tell students that there is nothing scary in the faculty room; however, it is not always easy because there are some teachers who deride students the moment they come in. The teacher’s attitude towards the student is because they sometimes forget to greet or they looked too confident. A student can’t just defend himself or herself in the faculty room even when it is right to speak for oneself. It would be useless and senseless to speak. Sometimes, learners are so helpless. It would be him against the world. The room is full of authority that gives them the opportunity to speak. A teacher can voice out disappointments over entering students who does not care to show good manners.

Students are well aware that all persons in the faculty room can affect their academic rating. This gives them the hint that everybody out there has an authority over them. All teachers or instructors are inside observing how one will behave.

Students are so conscious with the way they look and the way they answer their teachers. If students are not in proper uniform, teachers can easily castigate them. If the way of answering questions appears to be rude or swaggy unintentionally, other teachers will chitchat about it and judge the student as a disrespectful person. When I was still in college, I once observed a student during our field study that when the teacher told him to put something in the faculty room, there is somewhat hesitation. It is not stubbornness. He told the teacher that he is shy. However, I do not think that it is always shy as the reason of their hesitation but afraid to be criticized by other faculty members.

    • I never get scared entering a teacher's room in my student days. That's because I see to it that I have done my homework and studied well of the subjects I will be attending.

Students gets scared going into a class, when they didn't memorize what the teached told them to memorize or study when there will be a scheduled quiz. And yes, they are super scared when the teacher gives a surprise test. ha ha ha
