Facing Deadly Pollution in Delhi-NCR: Some Affordable Ways

The last 10 days have seen a lot of news and hue and cry over one of the worst pollution ever in Delhi-NCR(and probably the whole world). The Particulate matter and other toxic particles and gases have been way beyond(even upto 15 to 18 times) the permissible limit.

Now, a lot of pollution does increases when there is the onset of winters in Northern India. The air does not rises, and lower wind speeds makes the polluting air stick closer to the ground. Then, the burning of fields after the crops are harvested across Punjab and Haryana contributes to worsening air quality. The heavy traffic and burning of crackers worsens the situation.

Now, the governments can talk about the remedial measures but those take time and are complicated.

What can we do to minimize the high pollution damages to ourselves. We all cannot afford costlier (5000+ Rs.) gas masks.

We can however:

1)Try to avoid morning walk and jog- Gym at home, or otherwise is a better option.

2)While traveling by car- keep the AC on, even if you need to wear sweater or jacket.

3)Do not burn your garbage. Societies can try to make compost of a larger garbage volume, but normally nobody gives a though for this. I am a strong believer in this thing, and perhaps if many people do this, this can lessen the pollution.

4)One ought to avoid going near construction sites where huge dust can also impact our respiratory systems.

5)Add more green plants to your house or surroundings if possible.

6)Drink plenty of water, and gargling with warm water also helps. Tulsi tea and food rich in antioxidants can help.

These also boost immunity to a great extent.

Lastly, the public must show unity and try to pressurize Governments to provide more public transport and speed up the construction of metros and other public transport projects.

    • You say right that pollution is one of the major issues of the whole population. It is the fault of government not of people because pollution act is present in every country law but government gets bribery and permit the mill owners to spread pollution in surroundings and it creates many mysterious diseases in human life organs.

there are many types of pollution as land pollution, air pollution, water pollution, light pollution, noise pollution and etc...

Facts about Pollution are under mentioned:

Americans generate 30 billion foam cups, 220 million tires, and 1.8 billion disposable diapers every year, according to the Green Schools Alliance.
According to the WHO, ambient air pollution contributes to 6.7 percent of all deaths worldwide.

The Mississippi River drains the land of nearly 40 percent of the continental United Sates. It also carries an estimated 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution into the Gulf of Mexico each year, resulting in a dead zone each summer about the size of New Jersey.
Pollution in China can change weather patterns in the United States. It takes just five days for the jet stream to carry heavy air pollution from China to the United States, where it stops clouds from producing rain and snow.

About 7 million premature deaths annually are linked to air pollution, according to WHO. That is one in eight deaths worldwide.
About 56 percent of the trash in the United States is put in landfills. Half of landfill space consists of paper. Recycling just 1 ton (907.18 kg) of paper can save 3 cubic feet (0.08 cubic meter) of space, according to the EPA.

    • i read a lot about Delhi and its pollution fiasco. Everything is manmade and only man can undo what they are responsible for.
