Some people have ‘expiry dates’. This doesn’t mean they die, this means whatever they had, is used up. If it is attractiveness, friendship, even use, there comes a time when it has to end. It has to end for the same reason you don’t eat or drink something that has expired. It isn’t good for you.
There are ‘friends’ who do little more than destroy your life. They may not ‘mean’ to, but they do. They come into your life and make a shambles, and getting out of the friendship is survival.
There are people whom you liked because of how they looked or acted. They stop looking or acting that way. The person you knew is gone. This ‘new’ person is not the same. No sense in persisting. The best thing is to appreciate that the only reason you liked that person, or wanted to spend time with that person is gone.
You can see expiry dates on certain serial television programmes.
When you watch them online, you can see that they ran out of ideas and the new ideas are ruining your concept of the show. The fact that it is a ‘top rated’ show doesn’t make a difference. Many shows are top rated because they come on television at 9 pm on a Thursday just before another show on the same station you want to watch, and there is nothing that attracts you on any other station at that time.
Eventually, for example, the show that came on at 10 pm, which was your main view goes off and so why bother to watch on Thursday?
This happened in the airing of Indian Soap Operas in Jamaica. There was ‘It Seems Beautiful‘ and ‘Strange Love’. The first, It Seems Beautiful was the story of Priya and Ram, and Strange Love was the story of Khushi and Arvind.
Everyone adored Khushi. They loved the show. They liked It Seems Beautiful, but they watched it because after it, came Strange Love.
When Strange Love finished, people stopped watching It Seems Beautiful and the replacement for Strange Love, which was another Indian soapie never got the attention.
This happens with other shows, but they are probably not as glaring as the fact that between 12:30 and 1:30 Jamaica came to a halt. That from the T.V. in the Overseer’s Office at Prison, to the Tax Office in Kingston, the televisions were on and watching.
Then, Strange Love ended and It Seems Beautiful, which appeared so popular, was no longer attracting eyes.
As there is nothing else to watch at the time, really, people will, if convenient take a glance. If not, shoulder shrug.
In life, as in television, certain things pass their expiry date. You need to move, but you sit, and you wait until it is a forced replacement.
You work at this job, and you need to leave it, but you wait until you are ready to go mad or charge for murder.
One has to let go, realise that nothing is permanent in life and that being alert to expiry dates, keeps you moving.
