THE end of the world is nearing, says a Christian sect, and, although a certain date cannot be pinpointed, we are are definitely in the “season” for Jesus’ return.
Christian conspiracy theorists insist we have been living in the ‘end times’ for the last century, and now the return of Christ is imminent and he will herald in the apocalypse.
According to website Christin Prophecy – spelt as is on the website – the beginning of the end started in 1917 when the British government issued the Balfour Declaration.
The Balfour Declaration supported the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine – which at the time included Jerusalem.
Christian Prophecy states: “The leading Evangelical in England at the time was FB Meyer.

The end of the world supposedly began with the Balfour Declaration GETTY
“He immediately recognised the prophetic significance of the Declaration, for he was well aware that the Scriptures prophesy that the Jewish people will be regathered to their homeland in unbelief right before the return of the Messiah.
“Meyer sent out a letter to the Evangelical leaders of England asking them to gather in London in December to discuss the prophetic implications of the Balfour Declaration.
“In that letter, he stated: ‘The signs of the times point toward the close of the time of the Gentiles… and the return of Jesus can be expected any moment’.”
The website continues: “Since the time of the Balfour Declaration, we have witnessed throughout the 20th Century the appearance of sign after sign pointing to the Lord’s soon return.”
These signs apparently include the biggest war in human history, the establishment as Israel – the Holy Land for Christians – as a nation, and a plethora of natural disasters such as the rise of global warming, mega tsunamis including the ones of 2004 and 2011 and earthquakes.
Christin Prophecy continues: “The bottom line message of the signs is that we are living on borrowed time. And the crucial question for every human being is ‘Are you ready?’ Are you ready for the return of Jesus? Will He come as your Blessed Hope or your Holy Terror?”
However, it is impossible to pinpoint the exact date of the return of Christ.
The website points to the passage Matthew 25:13, which reads: “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.”
