Why Early Toilet Training is Important

Years ago, I wouldn’t have to explain. Today, when kids are wearing diapers to Kindergarten, I think explanation is mandatory.

Children were toilet trained as infants not to avoid laundry but because of the important psychological benefit. An infant is made aware that s/he has control of themselves.

This is so important that it can not be measured. Imagine if you were unable to move, unable to grasp anything. You lay where you were placed, and everything you needed had to be supplied by another.

At some point you realise that you can control yourself. This arm belongs to you and can be controlled by you. These legs are your legs. And this body obeys you.

The infant releases his bladder or bowels at the inception of the urge as if it is beyond control.  Once the infant becomes aware that s/he can control this, it is an Epiphany.

It is not that his/her bladder decides to release,  release is is the choice of him/her.

Faeces doesn’t just push out of the body, s/he can control the expulsion.

This sense of control  of his body is what separates the twelve year old flinging himself to the ground because he didn’t get what he wants and the seven year old understanding why this can not happen now.

This sense of control of self is what prevents a child from becoming a pawn of his/her generation and living as if s/he is the only person in the world.

This control makes the infant self aware.

It is very important to begin toilet training as early as possible. As soon as a child can sit up she should be sat on the potty chair and encouraged to relieve herself.

The parent makes  encourages sounds, and at completion commends. This makes the child aware of bowel movements.

As a parent should know when a child needs to go; whether on waking, directly after breakfast, within fifteen minutes of breakfast, etc. the placement on the potty is timed.  Over a few weeks it becomes normal.

Eventually the child, by the age of six months, should be aware and by nine months be either fully or partially toilet trained.

Girls are good at about nine months, boys often take a year.  Often diapers are only used at night, because during the day the child knows to call for the potty.

Just making the child aware of bodily functions and their control gives them a confidence that lasts a life time. The baby can control his/her body. It is an enormous step.

Too many lazy parents keep a kid in diapers for a very long time so that the child doesn’t learn self control.

It is part of the dumbing down process, the creation of an idiocracy.
