Congee is liquid from that one gets from cooking boiled rice. The rice is eaten with the liquid. As kids this was a staple diet
As kids we survived on conjee as breakfast in the mornings. Little did my mother know about its health benefits but we as kids were not happy with that as there were households in the vicinity where the children were fed with delicious goodies for breakfast.
It is only now – thanks to the Internet – that I have to come to learn of the marvels congee does to one’s health.
We no longer eat congee for breakfast as I have introduced several other items which are tastier than the bland congee that we were fed with when we were children.
I suffer from acidity and I did a study to find out what foods could help me get rid of it. And there one of the items was congee water.
When preparing rice using boiled rice the water which is known as congee water is drained out and not used.
For those with a weak stomach and those suffering from acidity this water can cure the condition. It could be used in soups too.
As is the case with any new discovery it takes years for it to be accepted and same is the case with congee water. Patients with acidity will go for drugs rather than drink this simple yet effective marvel.
I am a testimony to what congee can do. Whenever I eat spicy food or citrus fruits my esophgus burns which is an indication that the stomach has more acids than are needed. I take a glass of congee water and the feeling subsides. Neglecting this symptom can lead to stomach ulcers and be a victim of GERD.
It gives me such relief that I no longer have to abstain from eating spicy food and/or sour fruits though not regularly as I have a weapon that can contain the problem such foods cause to my system.
Congee is a poor man’s meal but a rich man’s cure.

I have heard a lot about conjee and there is no reason not to believe it has excellent health benefits. I love the statement you ended your post with. Two thumbs up!!
There is so much of segregation when it comes to type of foods. We have a plant growing in our garden and one of my workers said they do not eat it because it is eaten by the scheduled caste I will soon be trying it out
