Boredom, duty and life of a man

Don’t you think it’s a dangerous situation when a 9 years old boy says he was feeling bored? Actually, it is nothing strange as feeling too weary by dullness, tedious repetition, unwelcome attentions, or living a monotonous life is not easy to cope with. We try to find a way to get away from such a situation that makes us tired without even doing anything.

But do you really think that boredom is all that bad? Look at the positive side if you are feeling bored. I chanced upon a book “Boredom: A Lively History” a book written by Professor Peter Toohey of the University of Calgary a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (yes the book is available on Amazon.com)

Professor Toohey says when a person feels bored is invariably moving toward the situation where he feels lonely and when in such a mental stage that person always finds him in a better position for self analyzing. If you look at yourself with an honest self-analysis that will help you sort out many of your problems.

Would you believe that people living in a stage of boredom can do wonders for some of their friends because they think better and find many solutions? By the way Professor Toohey is not the only person with good views on a bore topic like boredom but Dr. Teresa Belton from University of East Anglia that worked as a researcher published a thesis “An Investigation of the Influence of Television and Videos on 10-12 Year-old Children’s Story making”.

Dr. Teresa worked on the life of Meera Syal the British comedian, writer, playwright, singer, journalist, producer and actress. Meera and her team is famous for “Goodness Gracious Me” one of the UK’s most famous comedy personalities from Punjab in India. Incidentally, Meera used to stand at window of her room watching at fields. At first, she started writing a diary and then took to blogging before entering into the field of comedy.

I think these things are completely opposed they are as distinct as is vice from virtue. Men too often confound them. They should not be limited or appearance should not be mistaken for anything wrong. It is better to look for human tendencies that only tend to work and show a few but not taken for anything else. There is a difference and it is for good at least not a bad action.

I am sure a person is in many ways oppressed by the way he plays his role in life. But he still tries to take full control of the situation. I have no doubt about the fact that most of the common people feel trapped within their limited activities but they cannot play their full role that is expected of them so they should not feel disappointed or oppressed. The world will go on with our limited capacity of doing our duty even if we envy those who are blessed to do more than we expects from ourselves.
