It was a panther in the news in our local media for days together. They claimed in a recent documentary aired on TV that animals from nearby forests destroy trees in our city areas at a very fast rate- the reason overpopulation. My question is over population of whom, the human or the animal?
I found that documentary Ironic, considering our urban and rural areas were very beautiful forests and bush land. I am sure it was not the animal to blame for but we ourselves. We should keep in our minds that all the cities where people are living now were once full of trees and wildlife.
I shared my last post on social media and I got an interesting query from an American a total stranger for me that said “could it be a case of smuggling, was it related to animal smuggling?” I responded back by saying that it could well be a case of smuggling as we have been hearing that smugglers are active in this area and may be the panther managed to break free from them.
We can see shocking cruel reports of live exports of animals. Do we have any plans to stop this evil trade? How do they think the feral animals arrived in the first place? It is the human to be blamed not the innocent animals. In any case the innocent creatures can’t be blamed for their more frequent visits to city areas as we have left not much choice for them.
I live in an area close to thick forests or what used to be area of thick forests but the rapid urbanization and industrial growth has reduced the jungle area to very small in size compared to what it used to be a couple of decades before.
I am not surprised to read that tigers and panthers apart from foxes are regular visitors to 9 of our neighboring cities. However our administration was found wanting as they were not able to catch the panther that managed to hide in the city for more than 50 hours paralyzing city’s life and injuring few citizens in the process.
