Fewer and fewer are sending physical birthday cards these days. But the joy of getting a happy birthday card delivered by a postman has a different feel than receiving greetings through email. And more special if one has not been reminded as it is done on FaceBook. Remembering one’s birthday has a special meaning. The sender keeps that person in mind, going from one shop to another picking what best suits the receiver. A hand written message certainly has more impact than the card that already has a message. Having said that choosing an apt message also makes the receiver feel that a lot of though has gone into that card.
Whether online or offline receiving a birthday card does make a difference to the one whose birthday it is. A thoughtful happy birthday card speaks volumes about the person who sends it.
A birthday card also marks milestones when one completes the 2lst, 50th, 60th, 70th and 75th year. These happy birthday cards have images and messages relevant to the year they are meant for.
A birthday card could also be specially designed with a relative in mind. For instance a card sent by a niece to an aunt with a message that speaks of that relationship is indeed a well thought out card.
The online birthday card with animations and loaded with relevant music is a welcome surprise and much appreciated. Sky is the limit to select animations and music which one can find in loads on the Net. All what one needs to do is thoughtfully select what is relevant to the happy birthday card in question.
Those who are computer savvy could create their own digital cards adding music, and a vocal message in them uploading images from their own collection. If one has a garden what can be more appropriate than picking the image of a flower that would be the favorite of the receiver?

I am still with the real cards. I find it easy to purchase them and give it personally or courier it.
Personally visiting someone and handing over a card has more value than those virtual cards but as they say 'Old order changeth yielding place to new'
