Birds Too Have Emotions and Feelings

It is only when I saw these birds on our dead cashew tree chirping that I realised that birds could be having feelings too.

We lost our cashew tree a few years ago, a tree that has left behind countless memories of joy that it gave us. It was a haven for birds and squirrels, when there were cashews on the tree. The chirps and happy cries of squirrels was music to our ears which lasted the whole day.

Even when the tree lost all leaves it was shocking to see these birds getting back there and mourning for the tree that served them all through so many years. They came every day and chirped but the chirps were different – not the usual happy ones. There were no fruits and no leaves and yet these birds perched on the dead tree and to me they seemed to be mourning.

It is amazing how they understood that the tree was no more – a tree that gave them shelter, food and a place to frolic around.

I have recorded the dying of this tree in a video clip which I am posting here for your viewing

I still miss this tree but it has left behind a sapling that is now growing and has already started yielding. I shall be alert now and keep looking around just to ensure that all is well.

Those who have a passion for the flora and fauna see life in them and can feel when they feel. I am one of them.

Perhaps an ornithologist could throw some light on my assumptions that birds do have feelings. I have watched birds mating, building nests and caring for their little ones.  Both the parents would be totally involved in caring for their babies until they left the nest. And once the babies learn to fly they are left to fend for themselves.
