When He Reaches His Hand To Receive The Fare
I cannot forget awhile ago what I had experienced while commuting. I do not drive my car for the road near home is under renovation and it has only one lane passable. Of all the running things, I chose an old vehicle just to experience hehehe. I sat near the driver. At first, I was not happy for passengers keep on passing their fare on me. Then suddenly, somebody handed me fifty pesos for his fare. The driver immediately reached out his hand to receive that money from me, and then I did it right, but what aches me is his hand touched my hand to get the money. I felt sick for his hand was so rough and hard like a rugged stone. I cannot believe to have touched a hand like that. I was in deep thinking as to the cause of that driver’s hand so rough and hard when he is driving not tilling a solid and rough soil like a farmer. Farmers also have rough, hard yet strong and healthy hands. They are used to stay under the sun morning to afternoon and they are not attack of bad sicknesses unlike those 24/ 7 sitting in the casino, staying and playing poker in a bar, but that drive despite old age, he is still capable to drive, awesome and so cool looking driver. I looked at his face in the mirror, I cannot find there on his face worries, and regrets of life, no. he looks so cool and relaxed. If only all are like him, there will never be problems on earth.
That moment when I touched the driver’s hand, I realized the value of hard work. We must value our work and be happy with what kind of work we are having as long as there is money to spend for the daily needs. Those rough and hard hands can survive amidst storms that may attack his life for he is used to hard work and patience. He could persevere and withstand any tests of time. He does not care what people say. I saw one passenger her facial expression was shown about some disgusting feeling she has have when she unintentionally touched the hand of driver. I guessed she was able to feel the rough and hard hands of the driver.
I do not like the action of that lady passenger. She was so upset about that incident. She murmured hehehehe, you see, those hands of the driver are like steel, strong and dependable. I hope that those who happen to pass the fare to the driver won’t show insults to him for he is doing an honorable job worthy to be emulated for despite of the fact that he is just a driver, but his talent is beyond compare to those graduates of a four year course, no skills promoted in their lives, thus leading them to depression for it is not easy to be jobless and alone in the fight of life. May all those seekers of job be like that jeepney driver I met in the evening here in our city.

Let us always pity the drivers and extend our helping hands like passing the fare in h has no conductor,
The least that we can do when we touched those kind of hands is not to mind at all and don't make any facial expression that may show disgust.
Why would we be disgusted, when rough hands shows that the person is an industrious and hard working one. He got those from constant working in the case of the driver from constantly steering the wheels of his car and sometimes helping carry some baggages of passengers into his car.
Let us help those people be dignified in their work, by not minding at all that their hands are rough, when we receive our fares.
Well, my hand are also a bit dry. That's because I am fond of washing my hand every now and then, even if I am always working on my computer.
It means I am a hard worker too. :)
@Dina, there are hypocrites, pretentious feeling they are rich and feeling the person as dirty. That is why I do not consider students' excuses just to let them pass for that driver has son in college that is why he said he works evening and day.
