Kano Hisbah apprehends 105 beggars for violating anti-begging law

The Kano State Hisbah Board said it had arrested no fewer than 105 beggars in Kano metropolis in February for allegedly violating the law banning street begging.

Malam Dahiru Nuhu, the Officer in charge of the board’s anti-begging unit, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.

Nuhu said that 35 of the suspects arrested during different raids in the metropolis are children and 60 adults.

He said the arrests were carried out in areas around motor parks and hospitals.

According to the Hisbah official, some of the suspects who were first time offenders were released after stern warning by the officers of the board while those who were not first-time offenders were taken to court.

He disclosed that 10 missing street urchins (almajiris) between the ages of seven and 10 were brought by good Samaritans for safe return to their various schools.

Nuhu urged people to shun begging and learn to use their hands for productive ventures to better their lives.

Katsina state govt trains 60 journalist on poultry, fishery, bee- keeping

Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has emphasised the need for journalists to embrace vocational training to enable them have a sustainable livelihood after retirement.

Masari said this known on Tuesday in Katsina during the opening ceremony of training of 60 members of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on poultry, fisheries and bee-keeping.

The training was organised under the Katsina State Economic Empowerment Directorate (KASEED).

Gov Masari, represented by his Special Adviser on Economic Empowerment, Abdukkadir Mamman-Nasir, said the trainees were expected to educate the public on the management of poultry, fisheries and beekeeping after the training.

The governor said the participants would also be taught on entrepreneurship course after the training.
