When You Don’t Know What You Want

Vin was one of those people who was scattered all over the place.  During his youth when he was forced to go to school he had direction.   He was going to school.    When he had to pick a profession, he selected one and his parents paid for his education.

As a scattered person he came into the profession and after a short time found something else he preferred so went back to University to do more courses.

When he graduated he got a job with a multi-national and was sent all over the world.  He loved this because it gave him a new city, new people, new ideas, new things to learn.

But Vin was scattered.   He would grab something and be into it, then, see something else, and get into that, on and on.

He married in a foreign nation and enjoyed the newness, and the travel back and forth, and the birth of his children.  But he was still mentally scattered, although he had a job and a family.

He was transferred to another country with his family and enjoyed it immensely.  The new place, the new house, the new environment, and immersed himself.

He decided to take another course.

So Vin got up in the morning and had to hurry to work, spending minutes with his wife and children.  He worked and left work to go to his course.   He’d come home late to study.  Spending minutes with his wife and children.

On the weekends he had many interests so spent time here and there and the next place, minutes with his wife and family.

His wife, neglected, unhappy, began an affair.   He never knew about it.  He was so scattered, so focused on this or that or the next thing, he never noticed his wife was having an affair.

Working for a multi-national he was given a period of time in each place, then moved.   This time it was back home.  He came back home and was bored to tears.

His wife, fed up, admitted the affair and he went for the divorce, which is what she wanted him to do.  But she had her lawyer and was going for as much as she could get.

With his marriage over, with his job losing all interest, he didn’t know what to do and turned down an overseas posting, and then left the company.

He bounced around and got a silly job being a dance instructor.

With all his education and experience, how?

Because he was scattered.   No one could say that he worked hard, save in spurts.  Most of the time he was more interested in some passing interest.

As many jobs demand focus, and Vin really couldn’t focus, becoming a dance instructor was pretty much the best he could do.

His parents didn’t know where they went wrong.   They had thought that Vin would be a stable, sensible person. They’d sent him to School, they paid for University, they could get him adding to his degree, but they couldn’t get how he could park education for the frivolous.

This is because Vin was, and is, scattered.
