What is your Opinion on Racism in 2017

Everyone was raised differently. We all were not raised up with the same religions, values, clothes that we like to wear, food that we like to eat, cars that we like to drive, who is attractive, etc. We all went to different schools and had a preference of whom we chose to hang around with. So our taste for friendships and relationships were different as well.

My upbringing was probably different than most interracial families. My siblings and I, always had and still have our parents involved in our lives. My father is Caucasian and my mother is African-American. I lived in South Carolina when I was much younger. In those days, I remember going to school and being made fun of, from the other students and didn’t have too many friends, because I had a caucasian dad. I had a hard time grasping the concept of the fact that my parents never discussed Racism until we were a bit older. I always went to my older sister for advice or if I was having problems in school. She was my support and I always looked at her like she was my protector. The day I finally understood about RACISM, I was very hurt, discusted, upset and never could understand how people can be so cruel because of the color of your skin. Knowing that we all bleed, red blood. I remember, our schools were not even allowed to watch or even talk about the movie…”ROOTS.” Till this day, I still have not seen the whole movie, “ROOTS.” Maybe it is a good thing that I still havn’t seen the movie.

It is naturally different in each state. In my early teens, I grew up in Cambridge, Mass, which was very different compared to South Carolina. Basically, there is Racism in every state. It is sad, to hear of all the racist issues that goes on in today’s society. It was worse before I even existed on this earth and the time of our ancestors. It seems like some of us have forgotten where we come from, by the actions and choices that we are making today. I was brought up to love everyone, there was no such thing as HATE! If we ever uttered that word out of our mouths, we would be punished. I understood the meaning behind that word….very powerful word….HATE!

To some people, that word is comfortable for them. Racism plays a big part in today’s society….especially when it comes to finding a job, voting, being discriminated upon, etc. Sometimes I wonder, what will it take, to end RACISM. I wonder what it will take, for all of us to come together, as one! I wonder…..

    • if you give respect then you earn respect, but some people some people still go through racial discrimination because of judgemental personality other people have.respect is the fundamental value we need to give to other people regardless of the race, age, weight and even skin color. kudos to your article my friend!

    • Why bother categoring humans based on races! We are all the same species not different species. Race is just additional category that human create and race is not even necessary because we are the same species. Because of this race thing, human start to stereotype each race and treat different race unfairly. Wasn't it is better that human treat everyone as one race not multiple races?
