How to take care of elederly but my father knew it better

I always want to laugh aloud when I hear someone suggesting their friends and relatives to be careful while traveling with children and elderly people. I was sitting in a corner during the Holi festival party in my locality in the evening because I do not participate much in this color festival. Most of the people in that community party were known to me so I was only passing smiles but nothing much.

There were two couples sitting in the row just in front of me planning a trip to Nainital during the coming summer vacation.  I know both these families from our locality and their parents as they live in next block whom I meet often in their late fifties or early sixties and all of them almost as fit as people in that age group.

One of the man said he was planning to take his parents to Nainital a lovely hill resort in our neighborhood. In fact they were interested for an outing and looking forward to renew their memories of the place they had visited several years before. The other one reacted immediately and negate the idea. He said something that meant, “You will have to be very careful besides you will surely miss the fun in your trip”.

I understand the concern of younger persons while traveling with kids or their elderly relatives as the seniors suffer from certain age related problems if not the serious diseases common in their age. But what I feel that if they are not otherwise advised to travel by their doctor there is no harm if they go fo a pleasure trip once in a while.

However, there is no harm if you go for a routine checkup of the elderly people before going out to make sure they are in good health and in no need of extra care. The checkup should be according to their medical history because most of the people not necessarily old are suffering from blood pressure or diabetes.

Actually it was their concern that made me aware about so many tips provided to me by my father on how to drive, how to deal with hotel booking, check the petrol tank and other similar childish suggestions usual from parents.  I always struggled digesting his tips in those earlier days of of my adulthood but now I miss his tips when he is no more in this world.

Fortunately or otherwise it’s not the same for all aging people because for many aged people it brings lot of anxiety and in some cases even fear. So, how will you take care of life of your aged relatives especially the parents? What if you lose any of them or what will happen if they do not understand your feeling?

So you should understand that as we age, our parents age even older and there will always be periods of disputes, joy and stress in between you and them. So it’s very important that you develop and try to find healthy ways to keep good relation with them that will help you cope with situation in a better way. And as it will help you make the most of the good relations and keep your parents happy when the times are really difficult.
