What Pie Is He Expecting To Get?

When I was at University there was an election for Student Body President. Okay. No Big Deal. Elections were every year.

This year it was kind of different.

One chap was, to us, a joker. He would make statements, but never backed them up. For example, he’d say something about limiting homework over the weekend, but how could he? He had no power over the staff. He never said how he would do it. He just said it, and the students clapped and he moved on to something else.

He would talk about ‘student rights’ but not list any rights. On top of that, he found the Democratic Students League dangerous and spoke against them. The students clapped for that because they were afraid of the League, felt it was communist or something like that. But the League simply discussed the same ‘rights’ he was talking about, only they did so in depth.

We, that is my crew, never expected him to get elected. He had no program, he had no facts, he had no details. Other candidates had details and could explain what and why and how. Going into minute points.

Yet…

He was elected.

This guy with nothing but empty remarks, vague promises, issues that he had no power to control or effect, won.

He won and became the Student Body President.

He did not finish out his year’s incumbency as his fingers were caught in a few pies. My year became the laughing stock of the University for electing an empty bag of wind who caused the changes in our Student Government, as the powers that be re-constituted the office so as to insure that no fingers could ever get into any pie.

For years after that election, people would recall my year and laugh at how stupid we were to elect that guy. Those of us who opposed him would get hot and bothered about it, but no one believed we didn’t vote for him because, well, he won.

In one way, Trump’s being elected got my crew back together. We started cracking up over the stupidity of the students for voting for the guy and the stupidity of Americans who voted for Trump.

Like Trump, the guy was inarticulate. He used tiny words, and repeated them because he had nothing to say. He had no program, no policies, nor did he understand programs or policies. He just wanted to be President to get his fingers into the pie.

The pie, at our college, was the Student Canteen. The canteen was run by students. The students did the ordering, the buying, and the selling.

The prices were not as low as they ought have been, for the Canteen was making a profit.

However, with Sticky Fingers at the helm, you couldn’t know.

WE, of the Student body, didn’t know about the money side of the Presidency. Or about the way the canteen operated. We were busy with our lives and paid very little attention to what we didn’t have to.

It was only after, a few months after, the election when we heard about the ‘dismissal’ of the President and the rumours started. That is when we found out about the canteen and what happened.

So we are considering, why the Orange clown wanted to be President. What pie is he expecting to get?
