In the 2nd innings of the 1st Test match of Border Gavaskar Trophy, Australia started with lead of 155 runs with David W and Matt R and India with Both Spinners R Ashwin and R Jadeja. Though Australia lost 3 quick wickets till team score of 61 runs in the form of David W, S Marsh and Peter H, but still they were ahead with the help of good hefty lead of 155 runs. After that Australia batted well to post total of 285 runs in 87 over’s at the loss of 10 wickets with the top contribution of Aussie Skipper S Smith who made 109 runs in 202 balls with 11 fours and M Marsh who made 31 runs in 76 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. And now by combining the lead of 155 runs, India was required to target 441 runs to win this 1st Test match which is looking highly impossible looking at the pitch condition and the form in which Indian batsman and Aussie bowlers were. For India R Ashwin took 4 wickets by conceding 119 runs in his 28 over’s , R Jadeja took 3 wickets by giving away 65 runs in 33 over’s, Umesh Y took 2 wickets and J Yadav took 1 wicket.
Writers Analysis: Though India already conceding the lead of 155 runs to Australia but still India should have bowled and fielded well to create more chances. India dropped many catches in this match which was the reason for India’s bad performance in this match. Aussie lack of bowling plan against the Aussie Skipper Steve S also hurts India badly as he was the lone run getter in their second innings, if India could have dismissed him cheaply in this Innings we may witness a dramatic change in the India’s body language as he bats very well and he never felt any discomfort in playing any of India’s bowlers may be its spin bowlers in R Ashwin or R Jadeja or pace bowlers.
