The plight of our mango trees

Man is used to have set ways and this used to be nature’s way as well. However, now with nature playing games or so it seems, everything that we see around is not what it used to be.  The mango trees for example, that are in our property,  are severely affected.

Normally they start flowering around November and by May we get mature mangoes that we simply look forward to.  This year it is different.  The flowering started just around January but it has flowered more than once.  It has flowered thrice at different times. While the first lot has full grown mangoes the second and third lot are just about coming up.  This has made it difficult for the harvesting activity.

Harvesting mangoes is quite expensive as labour here is expensive.  We therefore will have to engage labour thrice this year not someting that we really want to do.

The only alternative is to get some buyers to pick whatever there is on the tree. They will inspect the tree and fix a price and visit us when they think the time is right. Having to visit several times could be a deterrent for buyers as well.

I already see birds having a feast as we see mango stones dropped the flesh eaten fully.

My thoughts go to those who commercialise this activity and how difficult it is for them to yield to nature’s ways.  They would be forced to build the cost into the rate at which they would sell the product to the retailers.  Buyers therefore should be ready to shell out more money this year.

Mangoes are a favourite fruit of many and they will not mind increased rates although not a welcome situation.

It is not just mangoes nature has literally turned everything upside down. Even the flowers that grow are not there when they are expected to bloom and there again it will have a direct impact on the buyers of flowers.

    • Hm so what was your contribution in the seeding of the mangoe through to it flowering. It was by the hands of God and he did not give it at a price. But for your brother to have a piece of what you got from God for free, he must pay a price for it. Do you think it is right. Do you see why man is suffering so much in the face of plenty? greedy and selfishness is the cause of all our problems in this world. Because of that price you can kill a brother who take some because he is hungry meanwhile God did not take anything from you for that seed that land and that water including the growing process. Hope you now see the begining of all mans suffering?

      • It was not free. I bought that sapling and many others from a nursery. I nurtured that tree to fruition. And please do not generalise. All are not like you
