Misleading Information

Facebook is one of the popular social sites. It is my favorite past time when I do not need to meet a certain goal, which is during Sunday. However, afternoon yesterday, I decided to take a break from reviewing calls and stayed there. Just recently our country had an election and it is quite obvious that the posts of my friends and their friends, that had shared a lot of times, are about it. I love reading different articles but I found out that those articles are just part of black propaganda to ruin someone’s reputation. I was confused yesterday while reading because I do not know what to believe in. If the post is good about a certain candidate, does it mean this is the truth, yet what about the bad posts, is  that the black propaganda? It seems that once I read a bad article about a candidate I assumed that is a black propaganda already because there are words to describe to ruin them and the good articles are the ones that clear the issue.

My head wants to explode. I shared some articles about some candidates that pushed me to believe planning on something dirty in the future, however, I realized why I am sharing this article when even me is confused on what is the truth from these articles. It is obvious a black propaganda that misleads people so that a certain candidate will look like the bad guy or the bad joke. On the other side, what if this black propaganda are true and correct. What if they are really sharing this to warn people, should we believe in this area? It seems there are lots of people playing with our mind, tricking us until we give in and share this article then boom, we ruined someone’s reputation already.

With sharing this article, I think a responsible person should know that they are involving themselves in the story. It means they believe in it because they supported it. It maybe they have a personal grudge with that person or they just dislike them. However, there is a law for cyber bullying in the Philippines that one should read first before sharing some articles that could ruin someone’s reputation. I, myself, has the shared article about someone that I would love to trace and get back. I need to delete it, even though that once you posted it online, Facebook and any other site will able to retrieve it and it will be filed against you. I deleted most of my article and images I found on the internet attacking a certain candidate because I don’t want to belong with people who jumped on the bandwagon. Regardless if the accusation is true and correct, I think the law should prove that. However, if I stop sharing those articles, it doesn’t mean I am in favor with that candidate or any other viral people on the internet. Maybe I choose to keep my opinion on myself or share it with my friends.

I am putting myself on other’s position. What if I am the one that is getting ruined by someone? It will give me so much pain because I am a sensitive one. It also painful because the person that is making you look bad doesn’t know you personally. They are being prejudice because they are not in favor with your decision or to make it worst, they are not in favor with your existence. How do you go about that? I rather not do anything to ruin someone now because I know how it feels. I got bullied a lot of times, judge a lot of times and those moments are tragic to me. I am not a person that could accept a joke when it says about me. I can sense an attack and maybe that is a pure woman’s instinct on my side.

On the other side, I cannot trust an information when the comments of the people are “where did you get your facts” “keep your facts straight”, you cannot blame them for leaving a comment like that because not all people on the internet are just reading and sharing what are viral. There are people who will do their research first before reacting. If only I have that skill. Because of that, I rather keep myself mum and again keep my opinions to myself. There are people that will stoop down their level with some people, there are people that will stand by a person, you do not know where you able to meet somewhere in between. They will either in favor of your opinion or not, or they will fight against of what you believe. I prefer not to crush myself when I really don’t know the truth.

The truth is, you will be the judge if an information misleads you and you will feel it if it is misleading you. The truth will come on the right time when things that are happening turns to worsts.

    • Not everything that is posted on social media is true. I have worked for a newspaper for years and I can tell you that even print media is biased.

    • In the first, paragraph I read I already sense that this about the dirty politics in the Philippines. Before the election day, there were a lot of false news feeds that are flooding the social media especially the Facebook. I couldn't directly react for I am connected with the government and we are advised not to be vocal or campaign for our chosen candidates.

As it is called black propaganda, nothing speaks the truth, the reality. The information spread is all fabricated. The truth would someday come out, but the wrong person has already been in the higher position. Actually, no one has possessed the quality of a truthful personality. Everyone has his own secret.

    • I think there is dirty politics all over the place. I do not feel that either party is honest about most things they talk about and all a campaign is for is to make the other candidate look as bad as possible so the majority will vote for the other one. I do not like politics and there is not much that you can do to change this method of gaining voters. I get so tired of hearing everything that the other candidate did or said. It is quite hard to differentiate between the truth and lies. So confusing.

    • The net is a good place to get all sorts of information but like you say not all of it is true. There is some information that you can over look. Because not everything that's written there is true. When it comes to political talk people are always biased. Especially when it's not a favorable candidate there will always be trash that is being said about someone. I don't like that and what I do is ignore such stories especially on Facebook. It's like some people have a new way of breaking news or breaking up. You will find others abusing each other by saying all sorts of lousy stuff that's not true, so I agree with you on this

    • Factual information in social media today is gone. Maybe there are facts we can read but not all. Some bloggers and newscasters are too much opinionated to the point that they reject facts and based anything they write on their own knowledge.

We should be careful of information we are reading.
