THE OTHER FACET OF CHALLENGE FOR TEACHERS

Teachers are likened to be superheroes. They work fast. They remain strong amidst problems, powerful in overcoming challenges, and most of all, their ability to change the lives of their students for the better can be considered magical.

As we all know, professionals like engineers, doctors, architects, lawyers, and also teachers are born, generally, due to the diligence, flexibility, patience, and expertise of teachers. Therefore, teachers are considered a very important building block of a nation or rather the world, the global society.

However, how can superheroes perform their best when faced with a lot of challenges?

Here are some common challenges faced by teachers: beating the deadlines for a bunch of paper works given by superiors or heads, seeking for educational resources needed for the lesson, encouraging students who do not like to attend school classes, counseling students with problems- academically or even personally, dealing with colleagues and superiors with different attitudes and interest in life. They also seek the help of parents and guardians who sometimes do not cooperate to ensure children or ward’s welfare.

Dealing with all of these is probably tough, but since teachers are powerful in their own right, they somehow manage problems and survive. What could be the other challenge faced by teachers aside from those that are mentioned?

Teachers nowadays here in the Philippines are also facing the challenges of complying with the mandate of the Department of Education to provide education for all and to implement inclusive education.

Inclusive education embraces the philosophy of accepting all children regardless of race, size, shape, color, ability or disability. The idea is indeed commendable but is challenging on the part of the teachers. Under inclusive education, students with special needs are included in the regular classroom setting. Are the teachers capable of handling these students and are they ready to welcome them inside their classroom? Are they able to do some adjustment so every student, those special ones and those normal, can equally learn well?

Unfortunately, not all teachers are equipped with the knowledge to teach students with special needs. Handling these learners need lots of patience. Nonetheless, with their passion and with the help of stakeholders such as parents and the community, teachers can do what seems to be impossible.

    • A teacher is undoubtedly a superhero. Whether he works in India, Philippines, or any other nation, he plays an important role in molding the character of a student and make him a dutiful, responsible, and cultured citizen of the society. In India, the education system is somewhat developed more with the active support and importance are given to it by the Government.
It is not only the Government but also many NonGovernmental Organizations which are taking an active part in developing a planned Education system.

Starting from U.KG, L.K.G there are various types of schools that have been introduced. There are vocational training schools which impart education in the vocational courses also. Besides this, there are Vedic School which are meant exclusively for learning Vedas and other Religious books on various subjects.
The most interesting thing is that some schools do lack facilities. Some schools lack qualified teachers. Each Union approaches the Government with certain demands including relaxation in the qualification for the appointment of teachers. This is here the system suffers a lot. There are many schools which are lacking qualified teachers and the qualified are not preferring to work in Government run Schools. Either they start their own schools or prefer to work in private school as they get more job satisfaction.
The Governments are still unable to form a good and uniform policy to provide good teachers to the educational institutions. The political parties and Judiciary are being approached time and again undoing the developmental programs or schemes/methods introduced in the education system.

    • I think teachers for special children are trained before they are to teach these kind of students. After the training, I think they need to pass the qualifying exams too.
That's because these kind of students are easy to handle. Some have short lived temper. They should know how to handle a special child having a tantrum. Also when the special child has very short attention to what is being taught.
It is also a need hat they should be given the teaching tools necessary in teaching children with special needs.
Most of all , they should be give a higher salary, because they are in for a difficut way of teaching.

    • Our country is not well-equipped to cater children with learning disability. It can still accept to some regular classes but the teachers needed to have a special education degree. We can't deny that kiddos with special needs are not easy to handle. It is really challenging for the teachers to put two worlds in one place: fast and slow learners.

    • If the students refused to learn and when their results are bad, the teachers are to be blamed most of the time. Parents will come and search for the teachers and blame them. They never look into the mirror and the problems of their own children. A lot of teachers had done their best in their work, unfortunately, if the children refused to study, who can help them?
