Street Children Need Help, They Deserve A Better Life

In the country where I reside, I always see street children. They look so tired, hungry, dirty and mal-nourished. They have something to eat from their begging. Although the government tasks an agency like the Department of Social Welfare and Development, (DSWD) but still seen roaming in streets children begging. I do not know exactly if these children have parents that are still alive or not. There should be some people in the government agencies to conduct a research study as to the whereabouts of the parents of the street children.

There was one Christmas day when I served food to some street children in our city Divisoria. I served them delicious foods they might have not tasted in their lives. They are so pitiful and it seems that time they eat seems no more tomorrow. They eat as if they do not chew the foods. It seems they have not eaten foods for few days. On time I saw a street kid collapsed in the street. Nobody cares to check the kid why collapsed. I told the nearby people to save the child. That little boy seems five years old or more. He looks so pale and out of breath. I have not seen him again at that same street. I hope his parents have taken care of him.

The problem of some parents is they let their child beg to save them. That is wrong. Never let your child turns beggar no matter what. As long as parents strong and healthy and even not that much healthy, they must not allow their children to struggle just for the sake of their survival from hunger. There are parents who are lazy and they just like to play some cards, listen to radio, watch TV in neighbor’s house and never care to clean at all their surrounding, and forget to bath their kids. Usually this kind of parents likes to bear many children. The reason why can’t they control their children’s population is the lack of education how to control birth. They do not have knowledge about some contraceptives that stop them from producing more children. The other problem of them is they cannot read and write. That is now the problem for their children follow the same.

It is very important to save these street children. They should be brought to DSWD so that these kids can go to school for education in the elementary up to senior high in Philippines is free. They must not become or follow the footsteps of their beggar or so poor parents. If you happen to see street kids in your place, please give them food to eat. What we feel when we are hungry is also the same feeling they would have if feel hungry. They are helpless considering their age in which play and school should be their prime activities in their young lives. These parents that stay in their poor abode should also be helped. There are many ways to help them earned. First, they have to be trained how to do some earnings like farming, cleaning the house, washing clothes, and more that could help them earn some pesos. The wives can do laundry and some house help so they can buy food out from their seats not from begging which is not an honorable job.

This time , the new Ph administration has helped many poor residents in Davao through paying them at P100 pesos per family member per day .Their job is to clean the hundred hectares fish pond owned by the local government ;after which, income or produce serves as development fund for the entire populace in the locality in Davao and it extends up to the entire towns where they are part of that region. These beggars and people from the mountains have now a salary that can elevate their economic status. They can acquire dignity and may become useful citizens in our country. There is a need to stop beggary because there are many manual works that are needed in every industry. Training is a re-requisite, so why not give these less privilege people live in dignity?

What about in your country? Are there street children seen in your city streets? These children confine themselves in city streets for there are always people they can beg for some amount. There are rich people that never give some money their thinking is these children are garbage, they are wrong. These children are human beings. They deserve some respect to their need and feeling. The thinking of others is these children will use the money gathered from begging through other activities like buying for a rugby so that they can become rugby addicts. Although there are some I also see smelling rugby non – stop but there are only few of them and their survival is too short for they are picked by police and brought to DSWD for treatment or rehabilitation.

There are so many problems in the world and they are not just ordinary problem. This one, on street children is among the many. This problem is different from terrorism and war, so whenever you meet s kid begging you, and give him food instead of money.

There are for sure, children only manipulated by their parents to beg because they are lazy parents. These parents must land in jail for neglecting their responsibilities to their children. They never deserved to be called parents. What they are doing is child abuse. We cannot blame those who refuse to help because those whose living is luxurious, they sweat out day and night just to reach their dream to live in prosperity. These beggars must be taught ways to earn through dignity.

Let us be kind to humans in case they deserve help ; there is a good karma that awaits us.

    • I feel bad seeing children on the street.Despite the campaign of DOH, there are a lot of couples cannot see the importance of Family Planning.Adding up the causative factor of being in poverty, they still continued to reproduce offspring. For some reason, the government needs to called up their attention.I think they need to come up a better intervention for this. The poor situation is commonly seen in the capital of the Philippines.

There are three main things that DSWD need to push through:
provide livelihood, improvement of governance and progressive community projects.
Most of these programs are not available in areas of the country.
Due to its limitation, the poor people in the capital of the country are not being catered.
There is a certain tool that the government use in determining the coverage of the listed programs.

Most likely, these people cannot cope up secondary to poverty. That's the reason why some of DSWD facilities are too limited. The allocation of a budget is not enough. For the new administration, they should not only focus in killings of people involved.

    • Actually, there are street children here in our place. They beg because their parents cannot support them. They would be at the jeepney stand and goes around the jeepney windows to beg. Some would get angry when you don't give any.

Thus, I never give to these street children. Because if I do, I am encouraging them to beg more instead of going back to their parents or submit themselves to those DSWD people rounding the streets to search for them to be helped.

Besides, some of these street children specially those in Manila, are part of a syndicate operating them.

Though, if I have food with me, I instead give it to the street children. At least too, they will be surely fed unlike when it's money that I will be giving, it could be used to buy Rugby.

Yes, they are pitiful, but we should be discerning of what to give and whom to give.

    • @Shavkat, the department of social welfare and services cannot anymore handle the numerous street kids.It would be better for the local government to create clubs or agencies to help save the lives of these homeless kids. It should be better for our new government to finalize the pan to apply the two children policy. What do we notice to our country, couple has lots of children and they are also jobless and too sick. The best way is to have two children policy, if possible one child policy hehehe. Why are Filipinos like to have Baby factory> hehehe.

    • @Dina, the more in our city, not only street children rampaging, but also the Badjao's hehehe. But this new year 2017, the city government disallow the children to beg in roads where there are jeepneys on traffic. The Badjaos are no longer in Cagayan de Oro city, maybe they are brought to other place. You are right, the are pitiful, helpless, and bright future deprived.

    • The poor little angels! It break my heart in a thousand pieces to know that they have to suffer like that. And it make my so mad toward their wicket parents for using their innocent children and destroy their young promising beautifull lifes for their own gain! I will personaly strangle such an atuld! In my country the same is happening!

    • @leonora fourie, yes true very sickening reality parent making babies or having baby factory,They never feel the need of their children as being too young and innocent cannot understand life and cannot stand alone to survive yet when they are big enough some are trained to become beggars,Thank you dear for your nice thought on this blog very much appreciated,

    • @Shavkat, your suggestions on what our social services must do are very substantial to let them know that life is beautiful and they have the right to live in full blast. Why are there people like the parents too that create or multiply and have their children sacrifice much, Thanks friend for your very nice thoughts of this matter,

    • @Dina, that is the best way for we are teaching them to be more lazy. I remember one time, I gave the beggar boy very small amount of money 20 pesos and you know what after few minutes so many of them went nearer me thankful of the jeep driver he drove right away from that are. This time ,we no longer see street children in the city to beg from the jeep passengers by dancing hehehe, they are afraid to be captured by police,
