Throwing the Toys Out of the Pram

The title is an English expression.  It refers to a spoiled brat, who, when he doesn’t get what he wants, throws his toys out of the carriage.

The expression is used in reference to adults who behave in a similar and unacceptable manner.

Donald Trump is the arch example of this kind of behaviour.

Spoiled by his parents, made to believe he can do anything he wants and get away with it, never taught the value of truth and honesty, he has barrelled his way through life.

He has no limits.

Unlike normal people who know others have rights, who know that there is a truth beyond them, who are bound by various rules and regulations of society, Donald Trump does what he wants, when he wants, and anything that does not conform to his view of truth is to be erased.

He can stand up in front of a crowd and tell a complete lie.  He can be shown images which prove he is lying, and attack the images, the people who took them, and seek to invent a completely different ‘reality’.

So angered is he by the fact that he had one of the lowest attended inaugurations of any President, he says he had more than anyone else, ever, despite images, despite people who were present and saw the sparse crowd.

So angered is he by the fact that he didn’t win the election on popular vote, but on the electoral college, he is now disputing the votes, claiming illegal immigrants voted, although only 57% of all electors voted.

Americans now have a new president who is comfortable lying and has appointed White House aides who are equally comfortable lying about lying.

Trump has been told repeatedly his claim is wrong, even his own lawyers have acknowledged it is wrong; but Trump repeats it anyway.

It’s remarkable that anyone could become President and have such scant regard for truth.
However, this is Donald Trump, a man who got where he is based on lies.
He promoted himself as a real estate mogul long  before he had built a single project.
His first project came as a lie  in the form of an unsigned document, and a hyped-up claim made to recruit Hyatt hotels as a partner. It worked.
Because Trump got away with that first lie, he has spent his life lying.
He once claimed to have owned the Empire State Building.  When caught in the lie Trump went on the attack. He didn’t defend himself, but called the Reporter who revealed the story a Third Class Journalist.
And this is the man Americans elected.
