Alaska isn’t really the state that a lot books might have portrayed; we do subsistence hunting,fishing,trapping and sewing. We aren’t as aboriginal as we used to be. Our culture is slowly dying and in some parts have nearly died. Not many young people are interested in the old way of life.
I remember in 5th grade traveling to Stebbins to go be apart of the Dance Festival. Many villages would gather and Eskimo dance. I do not hear of the village children doing that anymore. I am not even sure if Stebbins still holds the same dance festival. There are still other dance festivities that still happen; just not the one my village went to.
You know as our Elders pass away so does our culture. Maybe one day if the children are eager enough to learn where they come from and want to keep our culture alive; it would be saved. The knowledge of our culture is with the Elders. There are people that are traditional still but it isn’t as it was back in the day. At least not in my Region, not many people speak the Inupiaq language. My family puts away a portion of the native foods that are gathered but not like back then when the land is all we lived on. It is sad to see that our culture is modernizing. Maybe it is a good thing at the same time? We just have to figure out how to keep the old ways while we adapt to the new.
These are just some thoughts I have been having lately. I am nervous to see where we will be in 20 years. Maybe we will have lost our culture? i hope not but it’s hard to say with all that happens in life. I do not even know much about the life style that was lived. I am at the age of the beginning of all this wonderful technology. I was just thinking about how the years have changed and how my people have had to adapt. I guess I will have to ponder some more and maybe I will ask questions around to see what others think.

It is fascinating to know the facts about other countries.Whenever I travel, I usually go to the museum to know about the place.I like to travel and see different places.It is not only for pleasure but to learn something along the journey.Taking photos will be the best thing to capture all the moments of traveling.In time, it will also become the history of certain places.
