Every Garden Should have an Incinerator

A passionate gardener will fill their garden with as many trees as possible least realising what will be in store when leaves start to fall.

Where there are many trees there is bound to be a shower of dry leaves and twigs on an ongoing basis. Some use these leaves as a mulch but when there are too many leaves burning them is the only alternative. An incinerator is therefore useful as burning on the ground could be risky and harmful as well. Burning on the ground will let the smoke remain at the ground level which when inhaled could be injurious to health.

We have an incinerator that comes in very useful. It is built with bricks and the height is such that the smoke emanating from it does not affect us as it goes high up. Since the houses are few and far the smoke therefore does not harm anyone.

We only burn dead leaves and tiny twigs and take care to see that no plastic is added in there.  Smoke coming from tyres and plastic bags is  poisonous.

This smoke when dry leaves and twigs are burnt  is also good to eradicate mosquitoes which cannot be avoided where there is greenery around

The ash produced is a good fertiliser. We do not buy artificial fertiliser but use this ash instead, apart from compost.   We prepare our own compost by having compost pits for wet garbage which consists of kitchen waste and what we find in the garden such as rotten fruits. We get a good amount of jack fruits which we dump in the compost pits.

Burning dry leaves and twigs is one way towards garbage management. Leaves strewn all over the place could be a hiding ground for reptiles. They also give the compound a shabby appearance. Dry leaves and twigs are collected on a regular basis and burnt once every fortnight.
