How do Shopping Malls Have Sales All Year Round

I had been wondering, why do shopping malls, stores and outlets have “Big Sales” almost every month, all year round.

 

How do these stores earn money with low price goods sold?

How huge is their profit margin?

 

In fact, store sales are just marketing tool or gimmick that attratcs consumers to buy more instead of saving more money.

 

Wholesale marketers and retailers are hunters who are skillful at inducing impulsive buying behavior in consumers.

 

#1-Buy Expensive Items

 

Shopping malls and shop outlets offer monthly sales simply because they intend to sell bulk goods at reduced tariff price while treating full price ( normal price ) purchases as the bonus.

 

Retailers are targeting on smaller and middle range income customers to buy in bulk low price items , misleading them with the concept of “buy more, save more”.

Most customers would purchase a few full price items in addition to “on sale” items because many people think that they had saved money on the cheap items.

 

Hence, retailers could earn more profits on the pricier items, in addition to low price profits.

A win-win situation for the retailers.

 

 

#2-Social Networking 

When it comes to stay active all year round, most giant shopping mall anchor tenant would upload latest news on social networking websites in order to inform customers

 

The most common monthly news are  :

  • Member day offers
  • Super Save Day
  • Big Sales for festive seasons
  • Year End Sales
  • Buy $100, Free $10 Voucher for next purchase
  • Buy 1 Free 1
  • Buy 2 items save $$
  • Free gifts for certain branded goods to launch new products

 

 

#3 -Advertisement

Most of the big sales day lasts for 3-4 days, commencing on Friday to Sunday.

Member days are usually held on weekdays because customer traffic are high on weekends where most consumers are free on off days.

 

Retailers and anchor tenant companies publish big sales , promotions or discount adverstisements in local newspapers, brochures, fliers, send emails to customers, send text messages to members in advance of the sale days, advertising at official websites and online sales websites to garner more walk in customers.

 

In addition to this, giving out FREE samples to walk in customers also aids in increasing sale of the promoted items.

 

Free sampling of food is one of the common gimmick used in hypermarket where adults and kids are easily distracted from their shopping list.

Consumers are easily tricked into buying more items than required.

Most of us would buy extra items off the grocery list.

We are easily conned into Killer keywords which killed us silently.

 

The key to successful big sales profit margin depends on the strategy of marketing tool used in the market.

 

Sales with successful marketing tool which is up to date. Old fashion tools do not work with consumers anymore.

Sometimes, FREE gifts which are not useful, do not attract customer buying traffic either.

 

Instead Killer Keywords used on promotions and advertisements bring in more buys automatically.

 

“Save $$, Buy 1 FREE 1, Buy 2 save $$, Low price, Discount Price, Big Sale, Promotion Price, Normal price and after discount price” these are the killer words that increase more sales.

 

If you had observed carefully, you may noticed that After Discount Price is actually the “Normal Price”.

 

I had often noticed that Normal potato price is $1.69 but most of us are often misleaded by the advertisement board when it is published “ Normal price $1.99, After Discount Price $1.69”

 

That is how consumers are tricked into sales all year round.

 

 

Conclusion:

 

When consumers had tracked down a good bargain or discount, they feel the satisfaction and happiness of saving even for a dollar after a long queue at the cashier
