What’s in Your Social Media Marketing Tool Kit?

Wanted to share my experience with using Pinterest but first checked to see if my fellow bloggers here at Literacy Base had already written on this topic. Found two excellent posts.

If you plan to be active on Pinterest, these two posts provide good tips and advice.

Pinterest is an extremely popular social media platform that has been around since 2010; and it is much more than an organization tool for people who are overly obsessed with collecting stuff!

My Pinterest account was created almost as soon as the social media site was started; first as a personal account, but later it was converted to a business account. Received an invitation via eMail which gave me the opportunity to switch my account from personal to business, at no charge, i.e. FREE. That was a few years ago. Not sure what the process is now for current or new users to establish business profiles.

As of October 2016, my profile shows a total of 53 pinboards. My original plan was to set up boards to supplement by my herbs and spices website. As a result, 8 boards are devoted to food and drink. Like most social media sites, Pinterest allows users to opt to keep their information private and seen only by those invited. However, all of my boards are public. None are “secret”.

Because my account is designated for “business”, some of my pins are affiliate products. That means if someone clicks on the little gray box with the word “Visit” which takes them directly to the vendor site and they buy a product, a sales commission might be earned by me. This means you can use Pinterest to generate extra income and/or make money online.

At present, my financial objective is to use Pinterest to complement and drive traffic to my home business websites, to promote my articles and blogs, and to share affiliate referral links.

* * Here is an important Pinterest TIP:  Be sure to check your links.  Sometimes links get flagged and when clicked a message may appear that the link was blocked because it might lead to spam.  Not sure why this happens.  But it doesn’t hurt to check.

During 2015, Google Plus made an official announcement that G+ users could use Collections to arrange their posts and make them easier to find. This organizational tool is similar to Pinterest pinboards, but not quite as visually appealing. Nevertheless, it is can be used in the same way to achieve the same monetary objective.

    • I did not know that we need to have social media toolkit in first place. This is first news and biog novelty to me to own one. I know it comes like surprise to many people that I don't have many social accounts but my Facebook, lately Twitter and I think I make Google Plus but not sure. I hear I need to confirm my account there and no security if no phone number. More social accounts you own and make, more possibility they are insecure and end up stolen. I have head ache when reading all social network list, or how many they are true, and which I have safely to use. One page after another they change rules.

    • Sorry you feel that way. I don't have a phone and have had social media accounts for years. My experiences with social media have not been unpleasant with the exception of my Twitter account at one time being bombarded by distasteful comments. However when the matter was reported Twitter management handled it promptly. Most of my bad experiences I have written off as my own ignorance of not knowing how to use the tool and accepted as “lessons learned”. There are a lot of security and privacy issues with social media. But there are security and privacy issues just being on the Internet!

    • Social media marketing refers to the process of gaining traffic or attention through social media sites. Social media itself is a catch-all term for sites that may provide radically different social actions. For instance, Twitter is a social site designed to let people share short messages or “updates” with others.

Social media itself is a catch-all term for sites that may provide radically different social actions. For instance, Twitter is a social site designed to let people share short messages or “updates” with others. Facebook, in contrast is a full-blown social networking site that allows for sharing updates, photos, joining events and a variety of other activities.

Why would a search marketer — or a site about search engines — care about social media? The two are very closely related.

Social media often feeds into the discovery of new content such as news stories, and “discovery” is a search activity. Social media can also help build links that in turn support into SEO efforts. Many people also perform searches at social media sites to find social media content. Social connections may also impact the relevancy of some search results, either within a social media network or at a ‘mainstream’ search engine.
