Grandmother- the Baby Sitter

( In this article, “grandmother” refers to your child’s grandmother, who is your own mother or mother-in-law)

Grandparents can be a great help to working parents in many ways.

One thing for sure, they can induce enormous pleasure, love and care from their grandchildren.

The Teacher

In most families all around the world, grandmothers are regarded as “the teacher” , a legendary expert in motherhood and household chores fields that young moms would take for granted.

Nowadays, new mother are not afraid or shy to ask questions about her baby or her wellness from her own mother nor mother-in-law.

A new mother has more confidence in her because she could obtain advises, confidence and comfort from old folks.

Most new moms refused to accept lectures and negative remarks from their own mom or mother-in-law  because they wanted to prove that they are adults, not a child anymore.

Hence, it is the way how a mother or mother-in-law respect and speaks that matters most.

Grandmother Adapting New Methods

Most grandmothers remember well from their olden days experiences about motherhood but they couldn’t stop themselves from interfering.

Yes, all grandmothers love their grandchildren very much, regardless of sex gender.

Most older folks are surprised with the new technology that had changes from the time they cared their own babies compare to the new era.

  • Different feeding schedules
  • Different formula milk with assorted nutrients
  • Feeding solid foods
  • Toilet training
  • Communication skills
  • Children behavior

Fortunately, grandmothers are able to adapt themselves with the modern method of child caring instead of sticking to their old fashion rules.

Although they may be bothered with the fuss of bacteria or hygiene, they would still carry out the new motherhood rules because they wanted to be with their grandchildren.

Here are some tasks that grandmothers can help working new mothers out:

#1 – Useful advice

A grandmother can help a young working mom out by giving useful tips, solutions or suggestions whenever she is in doubt.

Her words of encouragement helps to build up young mom’s confidence into her new role of motherhood.

Although some old wives tales method do not make sense, sometimes, there is no harm trying as long as one had checked up with the internet for any side effects.

#2 – Granny sitter

No grandmother would ever say “NO” to baby sitting her own grandchildren.

When your children are left to your mother’s or mother-in-law’s care whether for half a day , daily ( before you set off to work and knock off from work ), weekdays, there should be honest understanding and reasonable compromising between the two of you.

Mum should have confidence that her children will be well taken care of by grandmother.

Refrain from interrupting or spot check several times a day. This is an annoying habit that signifies mistrust.

#3- Less worries and tension

Some parents encounter more worries and tension when putting their children under the care of other childgiver, neighbor, childcare centre for fear of child abuse, the level of cleanliness and mistreatment.

Hence, grandmother makes a perfect choice for you to feel at ease while you are at work.

However, do not expect grandmother to carry out every single step of discipline and your own home management under her child caring period.

They are replicas of you.

Grandmother dotes her own grandchildren more than anything else in the whole world.

She would never want to hurt them except for some light spanking and threats with a cane when your child is stubborn or mischievous.

If you don’t feel right about the way your mother or mother-in-law care for your children, indeed you shouldn’t had asked them to take care of your children in the first place.

    • I think it is in the culture that grandparents are the one who babysit their grandchildren, especially in Asian countries. However, I am lucky that my mother is so hands-on to her children. We didn't experience taking good care of my granny. The mere fact, my granny don't like us. Why do we need to force ourselves to her? But then, she turned to a new leaf when my siblings and I are grown up. She realized that we are precious souls to her.

In China, most parents entrusted their babies to their mother-in-law or biological mothers. Since most of them are so busy at work and no one can help them. They don't prefer to hire a personal babysitter because of trust. They are afraid that their children will be maltreated.

      • I agree with you.
Here in our country, Chinese families prefer to have own mom or mother in law to care for their little ones, unless the old folks are unwilling to take care, then had to resort to Indonesian maids

    • Baby sitter is a tough job for the young men but old people may do this job easily. Whether you choose your mother or mother-in-law for regular babysitting or decide to hire someone else for the job, select a caregiver who is the right fit for your family and its own unique needs. If hiring Grandma isn’t in her best interest or yours, services like Urban Sitter.

Some can help you quickly and easily find a top-notch sitter who will quickly begin to feel like part of the family. And no matter whom you hire, having a clear dialogue about your expectations is the best way to tee up any babysitter-parent relationship for success.

However, there are many daily costs of caring for kids. Consider travel expenses, including the gas purchased to get to and from the job and for any carpooling of the kids, the toll the travel takes on her car, as well as taxi or public transportation costs she may incur during the day. In addition, there are plenty of meal, snack, entertainment,

    • There is a myth in our society that says that children who are brought up by their grandparents are spoilt. Do you believe this as well? Am sure most people would agree with me on this one. As much as we may try to assume that fact it has some truth to it. If there is anything I would not change in my life, it would be doing or taking care of my children or child the same way my mum did it. Because for starters when I look at my life I can say confidently that my mum raised me well. It's really not about the old days or the new technologies that are coming up in our lives everyday, it's the technique that They used to bring up kids that matters. Our parents used to be harsh but at the same time they were loving and firm. Unlike now when parents are just being harsh towards their kids and not being loving enough. They are not getting involved in their kids lives, they don't care what the kids are doing it where they are going and that I can say is quite serious. So I feel grandparents are like the world's saviors when it comes to taking care of their grandchildren. They have actually saved day.
