The people felt happy hailing him as ‘our baby’ and ‘our star’. They even celebrated killing 1, 60,000 animals in his honor. But, this happiness remained only for a short period. He started appearing in public in various dresses of Gods and Demigods and finally styling himself as a God. At one time he came out openly saying ‘Let there be one God and one King’.

He was murdering people brutally. The prisoners were supposed to have a painless death. He was very much interested in CUTTING THE PEOPLE WITH SAW and his opponents were his favorite act and were interested in chewing the testicles of the victims. His sex thirst had no bounds and was forcing husbands to give up their wives. He exiled his own sisters and brutally killed his brothers-in –law. Many people committed suicide unable to bear the torture. He was beating the opponents with heavy iron chains, and sometimes continuously for days even. Some opponents were killed crushing them with elephants. He even forced the families to attend the execution of their children.

In AD 41, Caligula was stabbed 30 times by Cassius Chaerea, whom he was insulting just because of his voice and calling inefficient in collecting taxes.

As he started aging his mental illness knew no bounds and he killed his groomed and chosen heir. He started seeing enemies everywhere. He killed many people who were actually innocent. POL POT

A revolutionary of The Communist Party of Kampuchea who became the leader of Cambodia in 1975 and from 1976-1979 served as the Prime Minister of Cambodia. His four years of Dictatorship turned Cambodia into a killing field and as initial step ordered the Urban Dwellers to shift to Villages and work there for the development of Cambodia. They were forced to work at the point of a gun and whoever could not work were either shot or killed brutally. They were forced to work from dawn to dusk, in the severe cold and rainy season in the agricultural fields and if anybody committed a mistake, he was denied food for the day. He rose to prominence rank by rank and became the Minister of war of Ottoman Empire and held the de facto rule from 1913 till the end of World War.I. He supported Germany and appreciated German Military Culture and invited the German officers to reform the Ottoman Army. He ordered youngsters of military age to report to Military offices to join the army. As there was a flood of crowd, there was a delay in the recruitment and it had an impact on the harvest. During the war, his message to the people was ‘War until victory’. There was deterioration in the living conditions of the people and everywhere there was discontentment. The battle of Sarikamish sealed the fate of Enver Pasha as it was the single worst Ottoman defeat in World War-I and he blamed the Armenian Army and caused Armenian Genocide with the sporadic massacre of Armenians. It was a constant extermination of Armenians in their homeland and the number of people killed was about 800,000 to 1.6 million which were carried out during and after World War.I and it was to this incident the world ‘genocide’ was coined. JOSEPH STALIN

He was the Military Director of Soviet Union from mid-1920 to till his death in 1953. Under him ‘Socialism in one country ’became the tenet of the soviet society. He introduced Centralized Command Economy which transformed USSR from Agrarian Society into Industrial power.

The initial set back in the Agriculture led to disturbances which were suppressed by using Armed forces and intelligentsia in which millions were exiled, imprisoned, and executed. His period was a reign of violence for the whole 30 years. The enemies of USSR whom he termed were sent to slave camps where they were supposed to work until their death. He signed many death warrants and not spared the intelligent especially. He did not hesitate to kill the family members of the people who loved and worshiped him as God. When about 10 million people died due to famine he made a statement that ‘one death is a tragedy and millions is a statistic’. Even ice pic was used to punish the enemy. The peculiarity is that even the people in prison were released and asked to fight in World War.II and when they returned they were sent back to prison. About 1.5 million German women were raped and many Jews were kept in concentration camps to die. He killed 20 to 50 million people and finally died in 1953 due to Heart stroke.

    • All these rulers are metally disturbed. A person with a healthy mind cannot do these atrocities and enjoy seeing people and animals die in his every own eyes and in his own hands.

I hope no ruler will emerge like them ever again, though I know if there will be one the countries will all unite to do something to stop such atrocities.

    • There are way more than 5 cruel rulers. But the 5 you named are historical figures we should never forget. I am not as optimistic as Dina (rebelwoman06). I believe there are as many ruthless leaders in this day and time, as there have been in history. Maybe they don't get a lot of media coverage and have not yet been written about in history books, but they're out there.
