Zika Virus is borne by mosquitoes. It’s symptoms though mild can have devastating consequences specially with the new born affecting their brain and adults with neurological disorders. This outbreak started at Brazil about a year ago and now almost 60 countries are affected by this virus.
Due to this fear several pregnant women are opting for abortion rather than have the fear of giving birth to children with this serious defect.
Unlike many other viruses there is no prevention or methods to control the spread of this virus.
There is a tussle going on between a body of well over 150 scientists – some from well known universities such as Yale, Oxford and Harvard – and the World Health Organisation (WHO) about the forthcoming olympic games that are slated to be held at Rio, Brazil.
While the WHO claim that the Zika virus is spread over 60 countries and travellers are seen visiting those countries with no restrictions there is no reason why Olympics should be delayed or shifted from Brazil on account of the Zika virus. Rather the blame is put on the failure of the mosquito eradication programme. Emphasis should therefore be given to the eradication of mosquitoes instead of having the idea to cancel or delay Olympic games that are planned to be held at Rio, Brazil
Earlier this week however the head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr Tom Frieden is quoted to have said that the threat does not warrant this major shift or cancellation of Olympics at Rio, Brazil.
No decision is yet arrived at but both the International Olympics Committee and the WHO want that there should be no delay nor move the games elsewhere.

Unlikely for them to cancel because of Zika. Zika is dangerous to pregnant women, but not that dangerous to all the other healthy persons.
I think they can get around the problem by making everyone uses insect repellant from the moment they reach the country.
IOC and WHO are working together on health issues relating to athelets in general and they both are in favour of keeping the games going in Rio
