Will they Ban the Hotel for denying ‘Take Away’?

‘Take away’ in the modern sense is used for taking something meant for eating, in a container to be eaten later.

In my childhood, I have been visiting some restaurant along with my parents. We (my sister and I) were eating sumptuously and after the work is over we were deciding the prosperous items that tasted very much. The idea was to have a TAKE AWAY of those items. Parents were laughing and sometimes feeling surprised if we do not do it. As we grew up we felt delicate to take up this activity anymore but still observed somebody ordering TAKE AWAY separately while eating. On my inquiry with parents, they took me to a counter where everybody was standing in a queue and there was a separate counter which was packing different items separately. There were some carrying some boxes and went stretching them at the counter only to have the item inside instead of getting them packed. There was some who after they heavy meals were approaching the counter with a coupon and coming out with boxes in their hands. When I asked ‘why are they taking it again after eating sumptuously?” my parents answered ‘they are all TAKE AWAY’ meant for eating later at an appropriate time. They may reach home after their office somewhere in the night. So, to avoid cooking they are preferring to have TAKE AWAY’. Good. Not a bad idea. I totally convinced with the good planning people are having in getting the things done as per their convenience.

But, I am not convinced when I read the news captioned ‘AIR INDIA CREW TAKES AWAY BUFFET FOOD IN BOXES, SAYS U.K HOTEL’. I really surprised to read it.

It all happened when a Hotel in London complained that some Cabin crew members of Air India would bring boxes to pack and take away food and a warning note was sent with title ‘A buffet is not a take away’.

Air India served a warning to all its flight Attendants on a receipt of an email from the Asst. General Manger of the in-Flight Service Department that said ‘We have received an unfortunate email from the management of a hotel in London stating that some AI crew members regularly come down for breakfast with empty boxes into which they fill food items from the buffet, presumably to eat later.”

Air India warned that it would take serious disciplinary action against the offenders”. “ This may include…….we have no desire to allow the reputation of Air India to be tarnished by a handful of such individuals.”

Air India spokesperson says it was considered as fake as an AGM-Grade officer is not authorized to send a circular that has pan-India implications. But the cabin crew members confirmed that they too have received such a circular and that the AGM concerned was promoted to the said post only 15 days ago”.

Suddenly, the scene has been shifted from ‘whether or not of the take-away’ to the ‘Authrority of AGM-Grade officer and from that to his experience’.

What is the proposed action now?

Will they Ban the Hotel for denying ‘Take Away’?

Is it tarnishing the image of Air India or India itself?

DON’T THEY NEED SOME TRAINING OR SPECIAL CLASSES?

    • I think for a crew member to bring an empty box and fill it with foods from a buffet table is not good to look at. If the buffet table is meant for paying customers, then their taking those take aways would mean "no income" from them, thus diminish the what should be income of those buffet foods.

I think it is okay to have take away foods or we call it take out, if it is additionally paid.

    • i think that, that buffet is somewhat like an "eat-all-you-can" type in which the customers need to consume as much as they want within the four walls of the restaurant. Asking a Take-Away or To-Go meals means that you are not abiding by their rules. But I think fast-food chains will always have To-Go meals on any occasion.
