Do you know, why your mood get sour when you are hungry? Why you get angry when you are hungry?
Actually getting angry is not your fault. There is a scientific reason for your anguish. When we are hungry, irritability arrives because of our blood glucose. It’s a bit like when diabetics suffer a drop and become moody and confused. The question is, why we have hunger? Its because our brain needs sugar to function properly. Everything we eat is chemically turned into simple sugar. In between two meals, the sugar levels might drop, which could result in a lower brain performance. This includes the ability to behave within socially acceptable norms, and that’s why we might snap at people for no apparent reason. the brain does not wait for us to eat to raise sugar levels, it send commands to various organs in our body to synthesize and release hormones that increase the amount of sugar level in our bloodstream.
The four main glucose counter-regulatory hormones are: growth hormone from the pituitary gland situated deep in in brain; glucagon from the pancreas; and adrenaline, which is sometimes called epinephrine, and cortisol, which are both from the adrenal glands. These latter two glucose counter-regulatory hormones are stress hormones that are released into our bloodstream in all sorts of stressful situations, not just when we experience the physical stress of low blood-glucose levels.
Besides acting in the brain to control hunger, neuropeptide Y and the Y1 receptor also regulate anger. People with high levels of neuropeptide Y in their cerebrospinal fluid also tend to show high levels of aggression.
Hunger is basically the survival mechanism of our body that has served humans and other animals well. If hungry organisms stood back and graciously let others eat before them, their species could die out.
While many physical factors contribute to hanger, psycho-social factors also have a role.
Obviously, we all know what to do when we are feeling hungry. Tuck into a hearty plate of food, nutrient-rich that will keep you sated for longer. And do remember, life is too short to have average food. Eat healthy, stay healthy. Eat as soon as possible. If eating is not a solution, drink some natural sugar rich drink, which is fruit based. Post pone dealing with stressful situations until after you have eaten.
