Why people start to use drugs?

Personally, from the childhood, after I watched one movie about drug users, I have strong fear of becoming dependent on the drug and to die, so I never even looked to drugs side. Maybe only the cigarettes in my mind are more liberal, as I smoked a short time. But already many years I tried to live also without this habit. And I have always been difficult to understand how and why people all head plunge into drugs and damage their lives?

I got to read one study’s data. It turns out that no one factor determines why a person starts using drugs.

The most common reasons why drugs are put into use:

In order to have pleasant feelings. Many used drugs cause strong feelings of pleasure. Initially manifested euphoria later is accompanied by other sensations, which are dependent on a certain type of drug. Drug intoxication quickly becomes the norm, and people no longer feel previous pleasant sensation, their drug dosage every time to be increasing, and it is becoming increasingly vulnerable to their brain activity.

For the improvement of well-being. Some people suffering from social concerns, stress-related disorders and depression, start using drugs, thinking that it will reduce the unpleasant feelings of distress and anxiety. Stress can have a significant impact on start of drug use  and abuse, as well for convalescents from dependence relapse.

For the capacity increase. The desire to increase or improve physical or mental abilities may be the  initial reason of  the experimentation and continued drug abuse. But the reality in fact is different – for example,  given a burst of energy from amphetamine changes to depression, frustration, fatigue, apathy.

Out of curiosity, and because it use others. In this regard, due to the strong influence of peers, adolescents are particularly vulnerable. They are more likely to engage in an exciting and risky behavior.

At the beginning of the drug use, at first may seem that drug effect is positive. The man believes that later will be able to control the use of drugs. However, psychoactive substances can quickly overshadow his life.  Over time, continue to use  drugs, a pleasant effect is reduced and the use of the drug for a person has become necessary for him to feel normal.

Drug users reach the state where they are looking for and taking drugs anywhere and at any cost, regardless of the problems facing them. Drug use becomes a chronic and mental disorder characterized by compulsive drug use, regardless of the harmful consequences.

This is a brain disease because drugs change its structure and activity. There is evidence that just a one use causes irreversible brain changes.
The science about drug addiction increasingly present brain research and so change understanding wide spreaded in society, that this dependence is only human weakness and moral decline, rather than a health problem.

Drugs, unlike the natural sources producing the pleasure, disturbs and distorts the natural processes occurring in the brain, and the man becomes addicted to their use.

Addictive disease had to be treated and the treatment can last for the rest of their lives.

    • Some people who indulge into such drug addiction is being weak with the given temptations. It is an escape for them from the reality. They are afraid to face the obstacles or challenges in life. They can suppress the inner sentiments and tried to be break free. As they had tasted the illegal drugs, it keeps on tasting because of the temporary feeling detached from the real world.

On the other hand, illegal drugs are being used as palliative treatment for those people who are terminally ill. The crushing pain on their affected part can bring to misery. It is only the option to be in this situation. We can't deny that some doctors prefer to administer this to alleviate the excruciating pain.

    • Thanks for this important post. People should learn from it. They should know that indulging into illegal drugs will lead them to nowhere but to rut or even death.

Many who had been into the habit try to reform, but it needs a lot of time and total cleansing/detoxification of the body for him to totally get away from it. It takes a lot of determination for the drug addict who wanted to reform; it is only himself who should decide on it; of course with the support of his family or loved ones.

    • When it comes to heavy drugs i think they start using them for the pleasant feeling. This happens alot after you start smoking weed alot or other soft drugs and when the effect is harder to get then they tend to go to stronger drugs to try and get a better effect. After a while they get addicted to these drugs. Heavy drugs damage our body and minds and i don't know how people get so low into taking these kinds of drugs.

When it comes to cigarettes i can talk much since i have been smoking since a young age. I started smoking because i was foolish and endind up geting hooked. Now i find it hard to stop, yet i don't intend to stop yet.
