When You Have Nothing To Live For

This is a true story; I only change the names.

Rose was married at a young age to a man  ten years her senior.  Arthur wanted to be married, married to a woman of his race, religion, who was a virgin.   Rose was poor, her parents were poor and giving away their daughter to this older and unpleasant man did not cause hesitation.

It was not a happy marriage.  Arthur did nothing to please Rose.  He did what he pleased and she had no choice.

He hired her as a bookkeeper until she became pregnant with her first.   He sent her home to be home and do nothing more than be a mother.  She was soon pregnant with her second.   She had no life and when her kids went to school she got Arthur to open a little shop in the Mall so she would have something to do.

Her life was empty and she filled it with involvements in all sorts of organisations.

She met a young man when Arthur hired him to clean the yard and move furniture, and be a handy man.  He was younger than Rose, but he showed her attention and she soon fell in love with him and they began an affair.

The Affair went on for years, no one aware of it.

Then,  the young man told her he was leaving to get married.

All the years he had lived in her house, taken her gifts, enjoyed her body, he was involved with another woman and now that he had reached a stage in which he felt capable, was leaving her.

She couldn’t even mourn.

Having been diagnosed with diabetes she got up one morning, ate nothing, went to Church, took communion, came home, changed her clothes and went to work in the garden.

She got a stroke and died.

Rose had decided to kill herself and took the easiest way.
