Imagine you are hosting a birthday party.
Yah!
It is time to Cut The Cake!
But wait… this is one cake and there are a lot of people. A lot of people. There is no way you can cut that cake in the normal slices way and feed that crowd.
Or So you think!
Now this is one of those life hacks which will make people think you are brilliant. It is something that you can do with a round cake, square cake… any shape.
I’ll begin with the round as that is the real problem.
Instead of treating the cake like a clock and making those cuts from the centre into wedgy slices, make a border. Go around the cake, so if it is ten inches in diameter, you make it nine inches.
You go around the circumference of the cake, then, you cut narrow pieces from that circumference. Once you’ve distributed those pieces, you go around again.
Depending on how many people you have, you can take that cake, and cutting in one inch, after you’ve served the first, you have a cake, (imagining it was ten inches in diameter) which is nine inches, then eight inches, then seven inches, putting what looks like tall ‘brownies’ on their side on each plate.
Often, you’ll give the Birthday child half or one quarter the centre piece which is about three inches in diameter. It would be larger than the other pieces.
If the cake is square or rectangular, it is easier to do the ‘bordering’ and cut the cake into ‘brownie’ sized pieces, going from one end to the other.
If it is an unusual shape, you do the same thing as you would with a round cake, making borders, cutting around the edges, working into the centre.
Never try for the thin wedgey slice. You’ll never get it right and the cake will often fall apart and make a mess. Always do the border thing.
You’ll be surprised how far you can stretch that one cake if you do it this way.

Happened with me few times. But not for the cake but for other things.
I know how to stretch food... I've expected two and had six or invited ten and had twenty
it is not every one who goes to even and expect cakes under the occassion in my country. it is good advice anyway
If you have to cut something round, don't do the slice thing the way you are 'supposed to'
If the situation is already known before the cake is cut all is well but when that is not the case then you can use our home method HPKO - HOUSE PEOPLE KEEP OFF (lol)
I've had a lot more kids show up to a birthday party than I expected, so when I had to cut the cake, I made my border, gave that out, made another border, gave that out... I got 14 pieces from the first border, about ten from the second, leaving a small six inches in diameter cake which I made into about eight pieces, so I did get everyone 32 people some of that cake.
