What Should One Do If They Are Suffering From Dizziness Suddenly

There are many occasions in our life when we feel dizzy,  some of the reasons for dizziness are low amount of blood content in the body, vertigo, extreme temperature like hot or cold weather, health issues like blood sugar, diabetis, epilepsy, medicines being taken for sleep and not giving the body enough sleep, overwork and many similar health issues. But many a times we do not know when we are going to face the problem as we may be either at work, walking on the road, driving a vehicle, doing some work like handling machines, exerting ourselves more than we should be.

 

Let us see how we can help ourselves when we are faced with this problem. As we are the first to know of the same and we will have very short time for us to react. The few seconds or minutes during which we are conscious before the dizziness sets in are very crucial. It depends on how well we react in that limited window of time that we have to see that we are safe and no harm occurs to us due to this.

 

If one is walking on the road and there is heavy  traffic in that area, the moment one comes to know or senses that he or she is going to feel dizzy and fall unconscious then it is better if they sit immediately on the pavement on the side of the wall, do not waste time searching for a right place to sit just squat on  the place near to the wall as once you lose consciousness then chances are that we may fall and will hurt ourselves, there is also the risk of falling on the road which may prove risky for our life.

 

If one is working in the kitchen and there gas is on and there is oil or dangerous objects on the cooking area, the moment we know we are feeling dizzy and may pass out, just close the gas if you are alone immediately and move away from the danger area in the kitchen by a few steps and just sit down and take deep breaths. Once you regain consciousness you can do whatever is the follow up process like calling the doctor, taking the help of a family member etc. If people are there in your house do what is told above at the same time call them out loudly they will come to you aide too.

 

If one happens to drive a vehicle and he feels dizzy when he is at the wheel then see where you are on the road, blare the horn, look a bit farther and try to steer the vehicle to the left. Do this without hurting anyone and yourself as vehicles have lots of power and speed they may turn out to be killing machines. Once you are safe to the left immediately stop the vehicle too. You may face a challan  from cops but that is better than getting injured or injuring others. If you are having a health condition where such a issue is foreseen then it is better not to drive or ride vehicles. Use public transport instead.

 

When you are walking down the stairs fast and dizziness occurs just hold the aisle and immediately be seated other wise there are chances of heavy injury if one takes a tumble down the stairs. If we foresee such a situation always hold the aisle or the wall and walk at a slow pace and better still if you have someone with you while walking. I have injuries like these occuring to people and many ended up with broken bones either on the hands, legs, back, neck or the head. Recovery is a long drawn out process in such a case. This is completely avoidable by following the said method.

 

If you are swimming and you are in the deep simply shout out for help before passing out as people around you or the life coach will become alert and immediately save you from drowning. If one does not do such a thing or if there is no life coach in the pool fellow swimmers around. Never swim in the pool alone even if you have good health. If you have health issues keep the coach informed and take doctors permission before swimming.

 

If one is walking in the house or in the office with some papers or other things in ones hand and you suddenly feel dizzy, then simply drop those files or papers on the ground if you find a chair sit on it or simply sit on the floor. Do this when you are mentally alert and have not yet passed out. This will save you from hurting yourself once you lose conscious or are having half consciousness as there will be obstacles on the way like chairs, tables and machines and you will be disoriented and hurt yourself. So follow the instruction mentioned above and if you are aware of the problem before hand inform a colleague and avoid getting up and sitting down on the chair suddenly as it changes the breathing pattern and may trigger dizziness, do this at a slow pace.

 

If you are standing on a platform or a stool and doing some work like cleaning a fan or moving things from the shelf on the top. Call out family members and get down instantly as if you have a fall chances of the back being hurt are very high, chances of head injuries too are more so first priority is to  land on the ground. That is where safety lies and then thing or do other follow up actions already mentioned earlier. If you are aware of these things before do not try to do such work and request other in the family to do the same and you do the ones which is safer for you and will not be a problem to your family members.

 

If you are trying to board a train and you end up feeling dizzy due to the crowd or the weather. While you are conscious itself immediately move away towards the platform as there is a gap between the train and the platform a misstep by one would be a big problem as he or she will land down and injuries are sure to occur. If you are prone to such health issues and aware of the same before itself, see that you allow the crowd in first then it would be easy for you to get in once they settle down. If possible hire a porter or take the help of a family member to drop you at the station and onto to the compartment. That will be much safer option for you. The same is the case even in the case of buses too.

 

Each health issue is unique and there are certain things which trigger such events. What I have found  is that strong smells like those of incense sticks, cooking, cleaners in the bathroom, pesticides and fertilizers for plants, smells of chemicals in warehouses, paints and such   other things are the once which increase the chances of triggering such attacks leading to dizziness and people getting unconscious. So be careful of the place where you are going and check if it is safe for you.

 

Be mentally alert as we generally become complacent and tend to take our health for granted. Practice breathing exercises and exercise regularly after checking with the doctor as it will improve the blood flow and lead to good health.     • I have always had dizzy spells,but this comes from jumping off the bed suddenly or waking up too fast. In such situations, I just relax in the spot I'm in for a while, then I'm fine. Usually, people say you lack blood, so you should be taking vitamins to help you with that. Its not so much of a common occurrence so I see it as nothing. I have also fainted from lack of food while buying stuff in the market. I took folic acid on an empty stomach with no food before and after, so that put a whole lot of strain on me, so I got dizzy and fainted, but was revived with water and a meal.

      • Happy to know that you are find now. I would still advise you to go for a checkup after advice from the doctor. One more thing is prevention is always better than the cure. So if one is able to find out the reason for such a thing happening and the reason for the dizziness it will help one in alleviating the problem faster and better.

        Once we are aware of the issue, it is half the battle won. I have come across some people who have had dizziness and have fallen down from the bed as they were disoriented and unfortunately had serious injuries. All this takes a toll on the individuals health. There is also lot of wastage of time and money too. The members of the family will also be anxious.
