What not to do in a job

Hello Everyone!

Who does not demand a job? Everyone needs money for survival and job is something known to provide social security. Yet, there are some mistakes which can bomb your career chances. Let us see what are they

Work does not integrate with social media

I have seen people posting work details on social media. People wrote on twitter:

I hate Mondays and Tuesdays. Why those days exist?

Imagine your employer saw all that? What impression will it have? He might fire you for this mistake and you will be in trouble. Even if you are not fired, you will definitely be questioned of this status.

Some people posted organizational secrets on Facebook. This is not recommended.

We need to learn not to mix work details on social media.

Pay hike but too early

People work for money and they love to get increment. But, nothing works without proper timing. People demand pay raise in first 3 – 6 months and this is ridiculous. Pay raise works only if you prove that you deserve them.

Try completing 1 year first and let your actions speak on your behalf. If you deserve increment, management will themselves call you for that. You need not worry.

Leaves are mismanaged

You have a contract. Work for X days in a year, have Y number of holidays and you can take Z number of leaves in a year (Privilege + Casual + Sick + Maternal/Paternal etc.)

It follows the equation: X + Y + Z = 365.25 – the number of days in a year.

In practice, it should not be mismanaged. If on record, you are taking Z leaves in a year, make sure that you are available on remaining X days. If you said that you will be in office by tomorrow, make sure that you are at work by the said date. If there is a change in plan, inform 1 day in advance to your boss. Make sure that the justification you provide is logical / genuine and not mismanaged.

No addiction please

Client meetings are usually formal while general environment may be casual. Imagine, you are entering an office meeting in drug addiction mode. In another meeting, you are drunk. In front of client, you smoke on their face.

Don’t you think this works like a disaster? Obviously it is.

Judge = grudge

Learn to see people around you and try to understand who they are. People need the benefit of doubt and this makes them understand you too. Don’t have a judgmental attitude to succeed. Who knows which person turns to be your friend when.

    • Hopefully I will not fall in any category; I will hate to lose a job over some insignificant thing or a joke.

    • I worked for 23 years in the same place and those were golden years for me. I gave up to start my own landscaped garden designing business.

    • You are definitely right. One time, I worked on a company and people there posts on social media about everything in the company. Can you add this one? "Avoid using social media during working hours because it decreases your work efficiecy."

    • What you jotted down is true I must say that in all the years that I have worked I have not fallen victim to any of this categories, I have always tried to be friends with everyone around me and to always do right for anyone.

    • I remember being in a hospital and seeing the nurses being busy on Facebook instead of caring for their patients. I saw the same with teachers when I taught as well - being on Facebook instead of teaching their students! The use of social media in our world has gotten out of hand when people can't stay off it for 8 hours a day and confine it to just their free time.
