What is Honeymoon?

When a couple decides to marry among the preparations the date and place to go on a honeymoon is discussed and finalised. There will be arguments as perhaps one partner would prefer the beach and the other the hills and finally after a lot of higgling haggling the one who speaks the loudest would perhaps win.

 Honeymoon the very word has neither honey nor moon that a bridal couple experiences while on their honeymoon. There are different meanings attached to this phrase even suggesting that it is the time to be alert as what they experience during that period will wane just as the moon.  

It depends however what individual couples look at it as. From talks among friends for most it has been trying to adjust to each other when the ‘real you’ is exposed. 

During courtship things that would not be quite palatable to the partner are kept under wraps only to be revealed during the honeymoon. There could be several that would irritate each other.

A friend told me that her honeymoon was ruined because the partner snored.

And then there are preferences which are never discussed before marriage.  While one partner is active in the mornings the other sleeps away as their active time is in the evenings – so on and so forth. 

Therefore that the honeymoon period would be joy through and through is not true. Adjustment is the worst part of one’s life and this starts on day one of a honeymoon. 

One friend spent their honeymoon at the partner’s native place. The partner just wanted to meet his people thus taking away those few private moments that could have been theirs and just theirs. My friend was not happy. 

Their bed experience though not discussed could be frustrating too. 

And yet when the couple returns from their honeymoon everyone waiting for their return would have questions galore and there would be lies told in answer to all those questions.
