What Are The Colours Of Your Name?

What is your favourite colour?

I’ve long disliked that question, because I don’t like having to choose just one of anything. Especially when it comes to colours. I mean, there are so many rich and luscious hues in nature. How could I pick just one? Even if I picked up a single leaf, that tiny sample might show dozens of different shades of green – maybe even hundreds!

My Name in Colour

For the letter “k” I chose KELLY GREEN – which isn’t actually my favourite green – I prefer forest green, or maybe apple green. But I have always liked the name! My husband’s has a grandmother somewhere in the family tree who was Irish, and her maiden name was Kelly. It seems rather appropriate to choose a green that has some kind of a family connection.

For “y” I picked YELLOW – pretty prosaic, I know. But this is the letter y after all! It’s tough to find a lot of words that begin with this sometimes consonant, so I hope you’ll excuse me if picking a straight forward colour seems a bit lame.

I love a good many shades of yellow, too. I like a pretty lemon yellow to bring a little sunshine to the kitchen. And if it’s decor for a bedroom – or maybe even an item of clothing – I’ll usually choose something closer to a mustard yellow.

My “l” was given over to LAVENDER – also one of my favourite scents and herbs! Lavender oil is in my first aid kit, as it’s good medicine too. When I was a little girl I lived in a white house that had purple trim that might qualify as a pale lavender.

I don’t know if there are many colour names that begin with “a” – aside from maybe “avocado”! But I chose ALIZARIN CRIMSON. When I was a girl, I can remember listening to Bob Ross on The Joy of Painting. This was one of the colours he seemed to use most often, and I decided I just liked the way the name sounded. (Incidentally, as I’m writing this on Memorial Day, I thought I’d mention in passing, that Bob Ross was a military man before he hosted his painting show.)

Alizarin is actually a little too cherry for my liking. But as I said, there’s just something about the name! Apparently, alizarin was the first man-made substitute for a vegetable dye to be synthesized by scientists in the 19th century. I’m also quite tickled that the original botanical colour comes from the madder plant, whose botanical name is Rubia tinctorum.

Can you find a colour for every letter in your name? Why not join in the challenge, and see if you can!

    • My favorite color is any shade of purple. I responded to your challenge on the forums and as you will see - the first color I picked was a shade of purple to fit my name. I think it has something to do with purple being the color of royalty. I grew up never feeling important and often times I still feel looked over or forgotten even as an adult. Purple gets you noticed! In high school, I even had dark plum purple hair for a time.

      • @lolaze I love purple too. Did you know it can be a healing colour, especially for conditions that affect the brain or the mind? I saw that you picked amethyst for your name. I love both the colour and the stone. I've often carried them for their soothing energies :)

    • @ruby3881 Awesome challenge. I am definitely going to give this one a go. I loved how you picked your colors even if yellow is pretty straight forward, it can be a powerful color to brighten your mood. I love lemon yellow and I think yellow in a kitchen is pretty. I love that you bring up watching Bob Ross. I used to watch him too. There was something so relaxing about listening to him while he was teaching you to paint. Of course, he made it look so easy. Just a little tree here and maybe some water, a bird, or a mountain. I did not know that he was a military man himself. Kudos, to him for serving and sacrificing for his country.

I cannot wait to get started on this challenge.

      • @morgoodie Sorry ut's taken so long for me to reply! Yes, it is difficult to believe Bob Ross was ever the guy who shouted at people when they didn't make their beds! He seemed so placid on the Joy of Painting. But I guess it was the experience of being that big, gruff guy that made him want to be a calming force in the world. And he was just that!

    • This is a very interesting challenge and a very unique one too. I like the way you write and how you overall present the post in a professional manner - right from the title to the content to the image. Keep it up!

      • @swalia It was fun to write this challenge. I'm really glad that others enjoyed reading about my colour choices!

    • My son loves peach and purple, that is how I got my username.
I don't know why he chose these 2 colors because they don't contrast with each other.

However, I am keen to join this challenge.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

Your name is beautiful, very unique

      • @peachpurple I've always loved your username, Peachy! It feels like pastel colour and sunshine, and it makes me think of peace and of everything going right. Just like when someone says that everything is, "peachy keen!"

    • This is a neat challenge. I wonder what my colors would be. None of my favorites like Turquoise.

      • @sandyks If I were to choose colours for your name it would be:

        Scarlet red
Aquamarine, which is very close to turquoise!
Neon carrot, as a reminder of how much you love to cook
        Dandelion yellow
        Yellow like the sun

      • @bestwriter You are a creative person, Grace. I've never doubted your ability to rise to a challenge like this. Whether it's elements of a landscaped garden, just the right favours and foods for a party, or choosing colours or flowers to fit with your name, you never fail to please.
