Waterfall in a landscaped garden

There are several features that need to be included while designing a landscaped garden. They are,  flowering bushes, garden beds,  trees, lawns, garden paths, garden lights,  garden benches,  lawns and a waterfall. If some highs and lows are created the garden will have a natural look.

While choosing the location for a waterfall in a garden it should be so placed that it is visible from all sides.

The size of the waterfall depends on the extent of a garden and also the amount one is willing to spend. It is understood higher the fall more powerful will be the water pump and when it is high then everything else needs to be bigger in size  and that includes the reservoir from where water is recycled.

One needs to have the right size of rocks to complete the waterfall. The rocks need a solid tiered base which is constructed with bricks.

The pumps installed should be hidden from view so also the connecting pipes and valves. Some place some garden arteficats in the reservoir such as fishes and frogs made of porcelain. Real frogs will be seen if the water is stagnant.

Some greenery around the waterfall will give it a natural look. There are rock lights available and a couple of them installed will brighten up the fall in the nights.

As a landscaped garden designer I have installed several water falls, cascades and fountains in my various projects.

I have one in our own garden. The sound the water cascading down is soothing while strolling in the garden.

The reservoir needs to be cleaned occasionally and this  only if the fall is not used for long periods, to avoid breeding of mosquitoes. If used regularly the recycling will move the water and there will be no stagnation.  Mosquitoes only breed in stagnant waters.

    • Thanks. We shifted to a semi rural setting where cost of land was within our reach. I am a landscaped garden designer and obviously I should landscape my own garden (lol)
