WATER: A SOURCE OF LIFE

WATER

We cannot live in this planet earth without water. Everything in this world needs water to survive. Just think of our daily food that needs to be washed with water before cooking; those soups that its’ main ingredients is water; and those coffee or juices we drink that needs mainly water. The time we go out from our home, we need water to take a bath, brush our teeth or wash our face. When we wash our clothes, our car, our things, water is all we need. Almost everything we do involve the usage of water.

All living things are made up of water. One third of the planet earth is covered with water.

 

What is water?

According to science, water is made up of oxygen and a hydrogen atom. It is a chemical and is said by chemist a compound.

Water can be in the form of liquid, solid or gas. Liquid waters are those that are flowing; often fill the oceans, seas, lakes, swamps, rivers, and that water we drink. Rainfalls are also liquid water. Solid waters are those frozen liquid called ice or the hailstorms and the glaciers. Gas waters are those water vapors that are present in the air.

Are all water drinkable?

Water in the ocean and seas are salty water. The rivers and lakes can be polluted. Salty and polluted waters are not safe to drink. It can have harmful chemicals that can cause disease to our body.

Boiling of water can kill germs and is good to drink. Scientist already discovered ways to cleans water aside from boiling. One is to purify it through filtration. Filtration is the process of filtering, especially liquid or gas that passes through filtering machine that separates solid particles.

Desalination is also one way to clean water, especially the sea water. Experts use technology to remove salts and other chemicals from the sea water and transform into fresh water.

Lifestraw, ceramic water filters, life sack, and water purifying bicycle are some of the technologies invented to use in purifying water.

We can only drink water that are purified or cleaned to avoid sickness caused by germs.

Water is one source of life for every living thing in this world. We must protect and preserve it. Let us avoid polluting our rivers, seas, and oceans, instead clean it.
