Population change is one of the most serious problems today. The biggest changes the world facing right now is the shift of population from rural to urban areas. If you look at the data for last 20 years the picture it presents is really more than scary.
In the year the rural population was nearly 3 billion and urban population accounted for 2 billion but by the 2015 the ratio changed alarmingly because the urban population has touched almost 4 billion but the rural population has gone down to 3 billion only.
If the data is any indication for things to come in near future it clearly indicates that the villages will be empty and the cities will fill with people coming from rural to urban areas which are already overcrowded and unable to take any more.
However, if the rate of incoming flow of urban population stays at the same rate or does not go further up the situation of our cities will chock the life of people living in the cities. And the matter is not limited to people and their living conditions but there is much more that will affect the life of citizen.
For instance, in the year 2006 almost 38% land available on the earth was under the category of ‘cultivated land’ which reduced to 37% by the end of 2011. Even the European countries with all modern facilities available in villages are no exception.
The fact that countries like Ireland and Denmark are suffering from the reduced cultivated area is proof enough that agricultural land is reducing due to urbanization. Asia and Africa are no exception but the population is growing at the fastest rate in these two continents and cities are overcrowded.
However, the fact that most of these countries are not unsafe as far food production is concerned which is an indication of commercialization of agricultural produce but at the cost of farmers which is not a good sign for poor countries where most people still depend on agriculture.
