Training a puppy to housebreak

When a puppy is brought home it may have already got into some habit of messing up everywhere.  There is a way to get the puppy to do it the right way.

Having a well trained dog is an asset and efforts should be made in that direction. The first step is to have the puppy trained for housebreaking.

The caretaker has to spend sometime with the movement of the puppy. the moment it decides to do its job it should be immediately lifted from there and placed on  a paper which has the smell  of the poo or urine. This paper will be placed previously where the owner wants the puppy to do its job.

This has to be repeated several times and results will show gradually.

The puppy will on its own search for that and relieve itself.

The owner needs to have infinite patience. Scolding or beating the puppy will never work. Instead rewarding the puppy with titbits and praising it by caressing it will be an indication to the puppy that it has done the right thing and it will repeat that performance anytime it needs to.

In the rainy season when the puppy seeks to go to that  place a similar action would be necessary in that the paper with the smell should be kept where the puppy should do that job which usually is in the bath or toilet. It will go there and after a few vigils it will automatically seek that place.

Shouting or hitting the pup will make it violent and instead of a pet there will be a ferocious animal around. Raising one’s voice at the same time making a sound with a rolled paper sometimes helps but never by hitting the pup.

No house dog needs to be trained such as wanting it to perform. What is needed are a few rules so that the dog is not a nuisance but an asset around.
