Colic is normal known as abdominal pain that usually happens with babies from around 3 weeks or even with adults. It may occur suddenly and be a symptom accompanies with many diseases like: gastrointestinal problems( constipation, indigestion, heartburn,…) or biliary colic which is commonly in adults.

 The causes of colic are not well known but its type includes: baby colic( infantile colic, characterized by constant crying), nephritic colic( when the strongest pain is located in the flank, caused by kidney stones), biliary colic( pain occurs at right upper part of abdomen, can radiate to shoulder), colic in horses( pain caused by intestinal displacement or obstruction, known as the fatal conditions in horses), Devon colic or lead poisoning( characterized by abdominal pain, constipation, headaches, restlessness,…).

 An infantile colic is defined as intense crying episodes with 2-3 hours daily, 3-4 days every week and last for 3-4 weeks cause your baby is unable to tell you that he is feeling uncomfortable or even pain.

 Other signs that adults can experience includes: abdominal distension, turgidity, indigestion, pain lead hard to eat or even move, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation may accompany.

 If not treated timely, the abdominal pain will affect the whole of body, exhaustion appearance and decrease body’s immune system.

 Any signs or symptoms suspect organic disease, you should visit your doctors and may need a surgery. In addition, you can consider the best safety and effectively home remedies for colic. These natural methods will help you feel more comfortable and pain relief.

  1. Warm water bath and massage

Bath and massage with warm water is the most safety remedy for your baby. Warm water helps soothe, decrease pain and sleep.

  •         Use a lukewarm water bathtub with some drops of lavender essential oil
  •         Let your baby relax in it then massage the tummy lightly with soft tower in circulation from right to left in 5- 10 minutes until your baby feel calm.
  1. Asafetida

 Asafetida is considered as a natural laxation, hepls reduce abdominal distension, increase digestion and also safety for your baby.

  •         Use a teaspoon of asafetida with a cup of warm water. Heat this solution to boil, then let it cool down at 30-40 degree. Apply it to baby’s tummy and massage gently. Practice it 2-3 time daily can ease pain and relieve gas.
  •         Another way, for a 6-month baby or older who begin solid meals even adults can mix a pinch of Asfetida with food then let him/ her eat.
  1. Peppermint oil

 Peppermint is a short-term treatment for irritable bowel syndrome, anti-bacteria, helps relieve gas. Peppermint oil bring cooling sensation so it is effective to reduce pain in colicky time.

  •         Add some drops of essential oil with baby’s massage oil then apply it to the abdomen. Massage gently in the circular motion( from right to left) for 15-20 minutes. Do this remedy 2 times daily for a few weeks.
  1. Warm lemon and ginger solution

Ginger helps reduce upset stomach, vomiting and nausea and is use as a traditional medicine since long time ago. Lemon has several health benefits like treatment of indigestion and constipation, reduce heartburn, helps decrease risk of kidney stones and strengthen your immune system. A solution of lemon and ginger is very useful in handling colicky status.

  •         Dilute 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of ginger juice in a cup of warm water then consume it 2 times daily or after any big meals. To make it easier to drink, you can add some sugar.
  1. Hot lemon and honey

 Like lemon and ginger solution, warm lemon and honey solution is other choice for abdominal pain. Honey is an important element of traditional medicines and natural antiseptic.

  •         Use 2 teaspoons of lemon juice with some teaspoons of honey( depending on your taste) and dilute in a cup of warm water. Drink it twice  daily and after heavy meals.
  1. Yogurt products

Consuming a large number of probiotics helps reduce the risk of colic, enhance body’s immune system. Yogurt and other yogurt products with a culture of Lactobacillus are safety and completely suitable for your baby even adults to support the colic treatment.

  •         Consume 2-3 cups of yogurt products with adults and 2-3 teaspoons with a baby per day. Using it  2-3 weeks to improve digestion, gas relief then leads to ease the pain.
  1. Chamomile tea

Chamomile is useful at treating stomach cramping with sedative effects, boosting the immune system. It reduces cramping and torment in the gastrointestinal system furthermore serves to ease unnecessary gas and bloating.

  •         Take a pinch of dried chamomile flowers with a cup of warm water, then boiling it for 5-10 minutes, let it cool down. Drink this solution twice daily or feed your baby with 1-2 teaspoons to get better results.

Besides, eating on time with a balanced diet, and stay healthy, regular exercise will help you healthier and decrease the risk of colic in adults.
