A Short History About Dr.Seuss

Who is Dr.Seuss? Heard of “The Cat In The Hat”?

It is an animated children program that is aired

all around the world which is different from the

others.

If you may have noticed, everytime the tall black

and white cat speaks, he uses several quotes, the

wordings will appear at the bottom of the screen

because young children might not be able to

understand what he says.

When the cat talks, he does not speak normally.

He uses poems or quotes or phonics when he

speaks.

Now, that is the uniqueness of this children’s

educational program.

Dr. Seuss is the creator of “The Cat In The Hat” .

His actual name is Theodor Seuss Geisel.

He was born on 02-03-1904 in Springfield, MA.

In 1925, he graduated from Dartmouth College and

then continued his studies at Oxford University

which he aimed to obtain a doctorate in literature.

While studying there, he met his wife, Helen Palmer,

whom he had married in 1927.

Dr Seuss began working for a leading humor

magazine called “Judge” which was well-known in

America back in the early 1900’s.

He created his own cartoon drawings and humorous

articles to “Judge” and also to “Life”,”Vanity Fair”

 and “Liberty”.

The Cat In The Hat

Dr.Seuss became popular when he created an

insecticide called “Flit” which was well-received

by the readers.

That led him to a contract to draw comic

advertisement for “Flit” for 17 years.

People knows Dr.Seuss as “Quick,Henry, the Flit!”

because this phrase had been used frequently.

“The Cat In The Hat” was born when “Life”

published a report touching the fact about the

illiteracy of young school children having trouble in

 reading.

Back then, the children were not interested with

their books because they were boring, not

 entertaining at all.

This news garnered Dr.Seuss ‘s publisher interest.

He sent a list of 400 words to Dr.Seuss and required

him to filter the list to 250 words so that a first

grader could understand and remember easily.

Nine months later, Dr.Seuss published a book called

“The Cat In The Hat” by using 220 words repeatedly

that were given to him to use.
