To do or to get?

To do something exciting or to get something? That question is one I hear a lot when talking with my friends and family, especially when discussing what to do around Christmas and New Years. Do we get lots of presents for someone or do we go on a vacation and create new memories.

After a few years of hearing that question, I decided to look up which is scientifically better in regards to keeping a relationship healthy. The surprising answer is that doing more things together is a stronger bond than having more stuff. The reasoning behind that is memories create a stronger common bond then stuff does.

While stuff may be around the house longer, it doesn’t have the memories attached to it. For example, if you get a new car eventually it’ll be just another vehicle, and there won’t be as many common memories and laughter to go with it. Spending the same amount on a cruise gives common memories, and it encourages more social interaction between people who have been to the same places.

For example, if you let it be known that you went on a cruise and one of your co-workers went on the same cruise at a different time, you’re much more likely to talk about what was the same and what was different while both of you were on the cruise. The same isn’t said for someone wearing the same model of FitBit.  If you’re looking to strengthen your relationship with a significant other it helps to have common memories together, and to remind each other of why you fell in love in the first place. It’s hard to keep that fire going when the day to day pressure is on both of you, creating common memories can help remind both of you.

This is why doing things together is better than getting things. Doing helps create a common bond, and it helps us be more social. Humans are social by nature; it’s something we forget far too often in our push to get ahead. Maybe that’s why it always seems that people who travel more are happier

    • I agree with you that doing things together makes much more sense than getting stuff.you know when you get things you may get to a point where those things will not have any meaning to your lives that will just be things and that's it. They add no value to your life as such.
Doing things creates bonds that cannot be broken easily. They also create memories that cannot be forgotten they are memories that will be remembered for the longest time and cherished forever. This are things that do not diminish with time, in fact the more they last the better the memories. I always encourage my friends to do things in groups that way you get to learn new stuff, you get to meet new people, do new things and that's the best thing that could ever happen to anyone.

    • DOING SOMETHING THAT IS WORTH IS PROBABLY BEST THAN GETTING SOMETHING. AND I BELIEVE THAT DOING SOMETHING FOLLOWS THE WORD "GETTING SOMETHING". IT FOLLOWS.
LET ME GIVE EXAMPLES; IF YOU DO GOOD THINGS TO OTHERS, SOMETHING GOOD WILL DO TO YOU IN RETURN. MAYBE IT IS NOT FROM THE SAME PERSON BUT FROM OTHERS. MAYBE IT WILL NOT BE SOON BUT LATER THAN SOONER.
OTHER THING IS, IF YOU WORK HARD AND DO YOUR BEST FOR YOUR JOB, YOU WILL GET REWARD FROM IT.
IF YOU CLEAN YOUR HOUSE DAILY, YOU WILL GET FRESH LIVING HOUSE. AND ALSO IF YOU DO LOVE OTHERS, LOVE WILL GIVE TO YOU IN RETURN.
