Tips How to Make Exercise a Family Affair

Childhood obesity is rising over the years, starting from tender early age, toddlers and school age children.

Diabetes and high blood pressure had became top high risk diseases that had rocked the world.

What are the main reason behind these problems?

One of the main reason is LACK of exercise.

People are finding tons of excuses to avoid exercise daily, eventhough a minimum of 20 minutes per day is required to stay healthy, fit and strong.

Studies Proven

According to pediatric studies, kids are overweight, contract early stage of diabetes after having too  much indulgence in:

  • junk food ,
  • fast food,
  • deep fried food,
  • sweet pastries,
  • cakes,
  • candies
  • watching TV
  • sedentary lifestyle
  • concentrating on electrical gadgets

Why children are not keen in exercise

Lack of exercise and lack of encouragement from the parents or caregivers had deprive exercise into the corner.

Honestly, exercise is NOT an individual regime.

It is a family affair where every member of a family is involved to encourage one another to exercise daily.

Parents should initiate the first step by organizing the daily exercise regime so that their children ( teenagers and school age kids) are willing to join in for fun .

We should adapt a new behavior to help our kids to become physically active and keep the exercise trip constant as a fixed schedule.

This way, we could help our kids to keep their body healthy, strong and lower the risk of the high risk diseases.

Here are 4 tips how to Make Exercise a Family Affair

#1- Discuss together

Find a suitable time where everyone is at home .

Sit down to discuss together ( with your kids) what type of exercise they are keen, what they like to play and when they are free.

#2 – Cycling together

Weekends are the best time to enjoy bicycle rides at the park and residential area in the evening when the sun is starting to set.

Dad bought 2 adult bicycles and a tricycle. Since there were 4 of us, adults took turn to take rides while another person accompanies my son for his tricycle ride around the neighborhood.

Everyone had a good time racing together, enjoying the view of sunset and feeling the cool breeze. It was better than lazing around the house, couch potato.

#3- Walking in the park

Every Sunday morning, our family had a 30 minutes walk around the nearby park before we head off to the nearby coffee shop for early breakfast.

It is best to have a brisk walk before the sun starts to scorch at 9am.

So, 6-7am in the morning is the best time to have a brisk walk or a jog to sweat out.

Wear suitable jogging shoes, a loose T shirt or round neck shirt and jogging short.

Kids love to chase after parents to have fun.

#4- Decide your own game rule

My son is keen in playing football , following his own game rules which I don’t mind at all.

We used to get a netball to kick to each other and the main gate is the goalpost.

Each time the ball hits the gate with a “bang” 1 point for the winner.

It was fun to catch the netball, physically, we are moving from heads to toe, sweating out in 20 minutes.

A good burnout of calories before dinner time.

    • Nice what a way of keeping the family in check this is wonderful. Actually truth be told many kids are really trying hard to avoid doing exercises and that is quite sad. If we look around in our homes and neighbourhoods there many children who are becoming obese because of the lifestyle that they are living. Nowadays staying home and playing computer and play stations has become the norm.Home are the days when we were asked to go play outside games like badminton, rounders (cricket)as it is called now, volleyball such like games kept the child alert and energetic. But if late this sports are loosing popularity. I do concur with you that families really need to come together and start up an exercise regime to deal with diabetes and obesity in the society

    • Yes lack of exercise body after sometime falls ill in some mysterious diseases unknown to the doctors. the main cause of diabetes is lack of exercise because these days children are preying to prey to diabetes. It is a very serious problem for the whole world.

Medical science has proved that exercise can help you improve your blood sugar control, boost your overall fitness, and reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. But diabetes and exercise pose unique challenges, too. To exercise safely, it's crucial to track your blood sugar before, during and after physical activity.

There are a few ways that exercise lowers blood glucose:

Insulin sensitivity is increased, so your cells are better able to use any available insulin to take up glucose during and after activity.
When your muscles contract during activity,

it stimulates another mechanism that is completely separate of insulin. This mechanism allows your cells to take up glucose and use it for energy whether insulin is available or not.
