Those grazing sheep

It may not seem a great sight for many but for me it was. 

We were in a bus on our way to sightseeing lined up for the day. It was a full day out. Looking out from the window of the bus I could see clean and green surroundings that New Zealand is known for. There were hillocks with a thick sheet of green which I was later told was wild thyme.

New Zealand had plenty to offer – our package included even a boat ride to spend time at the Milford Sound. All these were great sights but what caught my eye were these sheep grazing along miles and miles of prairies lined up on the side of roads that we were riding on. 

From a distance they looked like cotton balls. I was fascinated more because while I was in school we had a subject on the prairies and the sheep grazing in this country. And here I was actually looking at that sight. I became a child and showed my excitement but others found it odd that I should be so balled over. 

I am a nature lover but I least expected that I would have the opportunity to look at these prairies which I found till now, in my goegrpahy book way back when I was a kid. 

I had loads of questions to ask the driver. He told me that these sheep had no shelter – rain or shine. They stayed there on the green fields just grazing and resting – absolutely dictating their own lifestyle with no questions asked. 

My camera failed to take pictures but I have that image firmly grouted in my mind which will never be deleted ever – the sheep grazing in those vast prairies lined up on the side of roads that belonged to New Zealand
